Story
Spayed FemaleAge: 6 YearsWhite and BlackDomestic Short HairA434488 More about Amelia: I was found as a stray, so we have no history of who I will be in a home. I have the potential to be a fun, sassy companion with a cat-savvy adopter who is willing to put in the extra effort to help me come out of my shell. My adopter should keep expectations low at first, and understand that I am going to need time (weeks to a month+) to show more of my true personality. Based on my behaviors here at the shelter, it is expected that I will be more skittish with new people, so a low-traffic, quiet home will suit me best. I will do best with the people within my bubble (after time), but I might not be the type of cat to greet visitors. I will need a very slow introduction to my new home, starting in one quiet room with managed hiding places, and gradually be given more access to the home as I settle in. Expectations should be kept very low for me as I struggled when I first arrived at the shelter, and it is expected that this will happen again in my adoptive home. I was very scared and would hiss/growl when spooked, but I have adjusted in a quiet location and am quicker to warm up with slow movements and quiet baby talk. It cannot be stressed enough that I need to be allowed to adapt at my own pace, and that I am who I am. I need a patient, understanding adopter who will not push or expect me to be anything else than who I am. Staff is available to answer any questions should my adopter need to reach out to help me adjust in my new home! The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 3:00 pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats. Compatibility:Cats: Possible, no history. Will need an exceptionally slow introduction due to her transition struggles.Dogs: No thank you!Kids: Older, quiet and cat-savvy

Story
Neutered MaleAge: 3 YearsBlackDomestic Short HairA434914 More about Buddy: I am a sweet, loving guy! I will make a lovely companion for the right adopter. I am looking for someone patient, understanding of my history, committed to me being the only pet in the home, able to follow a strict plan for a slow introduction to the home, and to do some sleuthing to determine my litter box preferences. I will need a slow introduction to my new home. I will need to start out in a single room with multiple litter box options (covered vs. uncovered, different litter options including a pee pad option with a small amount of litter). Often low-sided, larger boxes with a soft litter such as grass seed is preferred, so this is a good starting place. My adopter should be prepared to do some experimenting to determine my preference and to ensure my boxes remain tidy consistently. Once my preference is determined and I have acclimated to my new environment and caretaker/s, I can be slowly introduced to more of the house, gaining access to only one room at a time with the use of baby gates, etc., to restrict access. I should have my preferred litter box option in multiple locations throughout the house. A quiet, low-traffic, low-stress environment is the most likely situation for me to succeed, but I might still struggle at times. An owned home versus an apartment would be best due to the potential of accidents. Staff is available to answer any questions should my adopter need to reach out to help me adjust in my new home! The shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 3:00 pm, with no appointment needed to meet available cats. Compatibility:Cats: No thank you!Dogs: No thank you!Kids: Older, respectful of the needs of the cat, generally on the quiet side

Story
Neutered MaleAge: 10 YearsGray and WhiteDomestic Short HairA435823 More about Mazda: A group of us recently came from an over-crowded home. The majority of us are outgoing and friendly, but a few of us are on the more nervous side and will need a patient, cat-savvy adopter willing to let us adjust at our own pace. We should start in a small room and gradually be given more access to the house as we start to get comfortable. We will all need a slow introduction to our new home, litter box, and any existing pets while we settle in and become comfortable in our new surroundings. We can struggle with some degree of close handling, whether it be for vet care of being picked up/put into carriers. It is recommended that our adopters use a fear free vet as well as be comfortable reading cat body language. Please stop in to meet us during our open adoption hours Tuesday through Sunday from noon - 3:00pm. Our matchmakers can introduce you to the appropriate cats based on the personality you are looking for! Compatibility:Cats: Yes! Not required, but many of these cats would love a feline friend in their next home.Dogs: Possibly - lived with a few small-breed dogs.Kids: Yes, but would recommend older and mature based on the level of nervousness of the adopted cat.
