Story
Buddy is a 7 year old Chihuahua. I was dogsitting him for 5 years of his life and then his previous owner had to move and could not take him with her. Unfortunately, he isn't working out here. He isn't good with kids and nips at them if they get close to him. He has a crooked leg from a broken leg that didn't heal up correctly. He does nip at new comers if he is uncomfortable but does get used to them after a while. He needs to go to a home where there are no kids. He is overweight and is being fed a special diet food from the Vet and he needs to be exercised to get his weight down or his muscles will swell up because of the weight issue. He doesn't have all of his shots except for the ones that his previous owner believed to be important. He does know how to smile and it is the cutest thing ever. He will sleep in your bed with you and is crate-trained if you want to put him in it while you are gone but he is fine outside of it as well.

Stanley is a very energetic and loving dog. He’s a German Shepard and huskie mix, he is 3 years old and weighs 55#. He has a lot of energy but will stay by your side all the time. He does have some separation anxiety but it’s nothing unmanageable. He’s very obedient and an awesome running partner. He’s good with kids and other dogs. Stanley is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative ;)

This sweet girl will make someone a wonderful companion. While Jaye is shy and scared of new situations, once she warms up to a person her trust in them is absolute. She is quiet in the house, gets along with dogs and cats, is kennel trained and house trained. She enjoys snuggling on the couch, zooming around the yard and playing with other dogs. She loves toys and will drag them all into a pile just to lay on them. She will need to go to a home with a fenced yard and another dog companion. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our application here: http://www.rchsks.org/our-animals/adopt-a-pet/adopting-a-dog. Story
Honey is a pit mix around 2 years old. She's a.petite girl at only 48 lbs. Sadly this darling girl arrived to our shelter as a stray, recently having puppies. Her family never came for her but that's okay, we will find her the best forever home! Honey wants to be loved on constantly. She is good with dogs but is very intrigued by cats, so she's looking for a feline free home. She hasn't been around kiddos yet but with how sweet she is we don't see that being an issue. She had a few accidents at first but is learning to wait until she's outside. Unfortunately, Honey's previous family did not keep her updated on preventatives, so she is now heartworm positive. Please don't let that scare you off, it is treatable especially in a young dog. Do you want this sweetheart in your life forever? Apply online at www.purple-paws.org. her adopting fee is $200. She is now spayed and updated on all vaccinations.

Story
Hi, my name is Ginger and I’m a sweet little red headed senior 15.5 yr old Dachshund with some special needs. When I first came to RCHS, I was pretty chunky, so I was immediately put on a diet. Since I have some back issues that cause my rear legs to not work exactly right (I walk kind of funny) we thought losing some weight might help me. I can get around much better now that I’ve got my shapely looks back. But my foster mom still watches what I eat and counts my calories. As long as you are willing to watch my calories, I won’t really need any specialty diet, just one that is a bit lower in calories for a healthy weight. Because of my back (disc) issues I’m also incontinent and can’t go up and down stairs. Mom has diapers for me but usually I don’t like to wear them and mom does a fairly good job of taking me outside pretty often. I often potty in my bed while asleep, so she has several washable beds for me. I do like to play with my squeaky toys, but my main love (besides food) is to nap throughout the day…. especially in the sun. I have several beds and a bunch of towels and I like to crawl into my bed and toss the towel over my head and take a nap. Of course, it doesn’t affect my hearing at all and if I hear someone messing with my food, I’m up and off to find you. And with my sweet face and soulful brown eyes how can you resist giving me a treat? Sometimes my foster mom will give me a green bean or two……yummmmm, but she’s very careful not to give me too much food…..I don’t want to lose my newly gained girly shape again. I have a pretty big wire crate (3’ x 2’) with a bed on one side (along with a towel or blanket) and mom leaves the gate open. Towards the end of the day I usually will climb in, cover up, and I’m done for the day until the next morning. When my foster mom goes to bed, she shuts the crate door so I don’t roam the house at night, but that is fine because, I like my crate -- it is my special place. Being an elderly stateswoman, I’d probably prefer a laid-back, relaxed home. I do love to be petted and have my ears rubbed….especially if you can get on the floor with me as I can’t jump up on anything. I get along fine with other older dogs and cats, but because of my back I shouldn’t be around young animal or kids that want to rough-house. I don’t bark much, but I will let you know if someone comes to the door. After all, that’s part of my job to keep you safe! Do you want me to keep you safe?
