Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi I'm Carmelo!  I am one of the sweetest, smartest and best dogs my foster parents have ever had. I'm about a year and 8 months old and came all the way from Puerto Rico to find my fur-ever home. They say I'm a German shepherd mix, but my foster mom has a hunch I may actually be an Australian shepherd mix. I love people and am good with most dogs as long as we have proper introductions, but I have yet to meet any cats. I do have some trouble with sharing, so I should eat my food, bones and treats separately from other animals.    When my humans have to leave I go right into my kennel and am quiet as long as my foster sister is in the same room as me. I have learned to potty outside as long as I'm kept on a schedule. I'll even sit in front of the door to let the peoples know I gotta go. I am very food motivated and it's helped me learn things so fast! I have lots of energy and I love to play, so I'm looking for a family who has time to take me on walks and play with me every day.   If you would like to hear more about me please fill out an application and we can meet!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Interested in adopting this lovable animal? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Are you looking for a canine family member that enjoys a nice walk, but is just as happy to sit on the couch and watch your favorite TV show? If yes, Rio might just be your man! Rio is a German Shepherd mix, estimated DOB is 10/2016. This handsome fellow weighs in around 45 lbs, a perfect size for a dog. Rio walks well on a harness, and overall is a calm dog. He does have short spurts of energy and excitement (especially when it is time for food!), and will occasionally jump up or mouth because he’s just so happy. For this reason he might do best with children that are a little older. While Rio’s foster family is at work he chills out in his kennel. He shows his disappoint in not getting to go with, but settles down quickly, especially if he’s given a treat filled Kong. When his family returns each day he shares his excitement with the household. Shared walls might not be a great choice for this guy. After running free in Puerto Rico for the first few years of his life, he’s quickly adapting to doggie rules in a household in Minnesota. He knows sit and wait (but it is so hard to do!) and is working on all his other doggy manners.  He is house and crate trained, but has had a couple accidents. He is not yet given free roam during the day and happily sleeps in his kennel at night. If this handsome bachelor sounds like your kinds guy, fill out an application to schedule a meet and greet. Story
Mia is technically a senior dog, as she is just over 8 years old, but her energy & drive are not typical senior dog behaviors. She's 1/2 German Shepherd and 1/2 black lab. I have had her since she was 3 months old, but due to major events in my life over the past 3 years I am no longer the best owner for her (including a new job where I will start traveling for work extensively in April). She deserves better. She's wary of strangers, not a fan of small children that are unpredictable, has lived with cats (but is always wanting to chase them), and is not a fan of other dogs. She has gone to daycare/boarding her entire life and is fine there, but would rather just be off looking for and chasing squirrels and rabbits vs. playing with other dogs. She is also a bit of a resource guard with food/chews, but just with other dogs, never with me. She is extremely smart and has been through basic obedience training. She is also a good running partner.

Story
I am already neutered, housetrained, in need of an experienced adopter, up to date with shots, good with kids 13 years and older, good with most other dogs, however, I will chase cats. Marlo’s Story… Marlo is a super sweet boy. His two favorite things are fetch and snuggling on the sofa with his head on your lap. He loves his people so much and wants to be where they are. Marlo walks nicely on leash and will do a “watch me” when passing people and other dogs. He has completed level 2 obedience class. A physical fenced in yard or access to one would be ideal for him so he can play outdoors with his people. Marlo would enjoy living with another dog. He is a very intelligent dog and loves to “work”. He is past the puppy and adolescent stages so he doesn’t need constant supervision. Adoption fee is $250 plus tax. Please email us at info@actvrescue.org. Inquiries with in 1 hour of downtown Minneapolis. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Story
I am looking for a foster or forever family! I need a temp foster for the following dates: May 13-29 June 6-12 Please CLICK HERE to sign up to foster! Select the "Apply for Adoption" if you would like to adopt Hi! My name is Chica and I am from Arkansas. Update from Chica's temp foster: I busted out Chica for a long weekend and WOW is she amazing!! She is a couch queen, bed snuggling, fetching, trick learning, porch swing sittin, amazing leash walker, PURE LOVING girl! Kennel is still a work in progress, however being able to talk to her through the camera helped!! I'm gonna do a trial this weekend of putting her in the kennel, but leaving the door cracked. I truly feel like I'll be able to trust her 100% where she doesn't even need to go in the kennel. She does not hesitate to go in the kennel, she'll even go lay in the kennel when we're in the room next-door doing laundry, she'll go down there just to hang out and lay down. She will be on the couch and we can be out of sight and she doesn't get anxious! I can't wait to see how much progress we make this weekend, all of this was within 24 hours! Other dogs, loud noises, squirrels, and rabbits don't seem to really phase her. I have a 14-year-old Puggle mix who is old crabby and stuck in her way, and Chica is not phased. She is one of the most trusting and loving dogs I've ever met/fostered! From her foster: Chica is a sweet little girl who loves to curl up in your arms to snuggle on the couch. She is very intelligent and is quick to pick up new commands. She will beg for your attention when she really wants it. We have one resident dog and two resident cats, she is fine with both. She doesn't bother the cats too much and sometimes will be curious about them, but for the most part, she doesn't acknowledge them. She is currently being kenneled during the day while we are at work and during the night sleeps in her own queen bed with a baby gate at the door. We do not know how she is with small children as we do not have any in our home. Chica has separation anxiety issues and is currently on medication to assist with her anxiety. While we have no problems getting her into the kennel (for the most part she puts herself in the kennel), once we start to leave the house is when she starts to panic by wailing, howling, and barking. She did escape her previous kennel a couple of times and we now have her in a much more durable kennel. Chica has not escaped the new kennel. She is also experiencing separation anxiety when we are out in the yard and she is inside. Are you thinking about putting in an application for me but you're seeing that I may need some help with training? Not to worry! My adoption comes with training support because The Bond Between wants to help me and my forever family. They know that some dogs need some extra support after adoption and they are all about setting me up for success. You can ask to speak to a trainer if you'd like more information about it. The trainer will tell you that I am worth it!

Story
Hi, my name is Dora. I am from a local MN shelter. Dora is a sweet and bold girl! She is curious, playful, and enjoys a day full of adventure (unless it has to do with water, she's still exploring if she loves it or not)! She loves to be with her human friends! She does well with our resident dog (she has not been introduced to other dogs yet, but slow intros would be best for her). She is curious about our cat and with continued positive interactions, she could do well. She is vocal when she is nervous and she does not like her kennel (when in it, she does bark a lot). She is a puppy and will benefit from continuous positivie training with behavior but with positive reinforcments, she will do well. She is working on her potty training and doing really well! She will stand by the door to let us know when its time to go out. She knows sit and working on shake. Dora is the absolute best girl who will follow you on any adventure. She loves to please and is food motivated. She loves to play fetch and loves to run in our fenced in yard! From the Vet: My foster noticed I was drinking more water than normal so we mentioned it to the vet when I got spayed. Good news is that my labs all cam back normal so there was no indication of underlying disease. I will likely need between 2-6 cups per day depending on activity level, however if I am drinking more than this it may be an indication that I am needing more mental enrichment in my environment to avoid this. My furever family should know about this so they can monitor it and consult a primary vet at their cost after adoption should any issues arise related to this behavior. Can't wait to meet you!
