Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Shermaine DOB: 5/25/2019 Weight: 34 lbs Adoption Fee: 400.00 Hey everyone! My name is Shermaine. So, back in December, I was picked up as a stray on the outskirts of Houston, TX. I found myself at the shelter for a LONG time. Sadly most dogs don't get to stay at the shelter that long, but they thought I deserved a second chance. Luckily, a foster in Texas found out I needed help busting out of there, so they picked me up so I could hang out at their house until I could come to Minnesota! I am your typical young dog who loves to be extremely active and will require lots of playtime. I love being outside and exploring the great outdoors.. that's why I'm so excited for Minnesota! I hear you have lots of wooded trails and lakes. I would be a great jogging partner or adventure buddy! I've met other dogs and do just great with them. Cats on the other hand.. I haven't met, so I'm not sure how I'd do with them. I am still working on my potty training but I'm getting better every day. If you're looking for a new adventure companion.. I'm your girl!  *The breed of a shelter puppy is often times a guess based on what traits the dog presents when they are brought in. We cannot guarantee the breed or size they will be full grown.* An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.  Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals! All Ruff Start dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention (dogs) as well as heartworm tested (dogs). Ruff Start Rescue is a foster based rescue. Animals are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a facility where animals are kept. Story
We are looking for a new home for Kona. We adopted her from a rescue ~4 yrs ago when she was ~1 yr old. Life changes have occurred and we can’t give her the time and attention she needs. She is a loving family dog who wants to be where you are. She will lay at your feet and is generally lazy and calm. She is great with our kids and loves to be touched even if that means rough toddler grabs and pulls. She also is good about knowing the difference between dog toys and kid toys. If she could curl up on your lap and snuggle all day, she would. She rarely barks, mainly at the sound of someone at the door. She enjoys walks when the weather is mild. A fenced yard where she can explore would be best for her. She has had troubles with seizures which the vet thinks is a form of epilepsy. She now takes meds and we haven't seen a seizure since. We give the meds in a pill pocket treat and she loves them. The cost for the pills and treats is about $25/month, we get them online from Chewy.

Story
Louie is a very sweet and loving dog. He has lived with cats, dogs and kids all very well. He is housetrained to use potty pads but we've been working on housetraining him to use the bathroom outside only. He is anxious about going outside alone and really prefers you to be out with him. He is afraid of men when he first meets them but warms up quickly. He has never tried bite or shown aggression in any way. Louis loves to snuggle.

Story
Introducing Molly and Biggie. They were born June 8 2018. Molly is the white and black one, she is lab mixed with springer. She is very affectionate and loves to cuddle. She loves tennis balls and enjoys chewing on bones. Siren noise scares her and she will howl. She can jump a 6 foot fence. Biggie is the black one and she is lab mixed with springer. She loves to cuddle. Loves bones and tennis balls. She knows how to open screen doors and cupboards. Very smart. I need them to stay together as they are sisters and never been apart from eachother. They sleep in a crate together at night. They are crate trained. They go potty on a training pad and outdoors. They love to run so if you have acres or a fenced in yard would be best.

Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.The breeds of our dogs and cats are a 'best guess.' We often do not know what mix they are and have to base it on what we think they look like, and base it on breeds often found in the area they came from. Most of our dogs who have gotten DNA tests done are 4-10 breeds mixed together. Because their breed mix is a guess we cannot guarantee a 'full grown size' of many of our younger animals.Interested in adopting me? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Diamond DOB: 11/23/2017 Weight: 55 Adoption Fee: 375.00   Hey everyone! My name is Diamond. I have quite the story to tell you! I was brought to a shelter in Texas by a family whose land I had been living on with a few other dogs for about a month (Thats me in the little kennel that I was brought to the shelter in) This nice family started to feed me and my friends so they could help us, but I ended up being the only dog that was able to be caught by this family. When I ended up at the shelter I was covered in fleas and had this thing called mange that made some of my fur come off. I felt terrified and defeated and had no idea what my life was going to be like all alone without my buddies. Despite all of that, I was incredibly sweet just cautious with everyone. Ruff Start was in the right place at the right time and knew I was the perfect guy for such a big event. I was scooped up by one of Ruff Starts Texas fosters, who showed me so much love, patience and treated me for fleas and manage. She also introduced me to her resident senior dog and another foster. We all became friends right away. I learned to walk on a leash and go potty on our walks next to my new friends. When my foster buddy left for his forever home, it made me sad but my foster mom gave me extra love and treats. Then the day for my transport arrived, I felt a little uneasy on the ride to the shelter, but my foster mom told me everything was going to be ok and I trusted her so I began to relax. She boarded me on a big bus to MN a few minutes later and we were on our way. Since arriving in MN I have been learning everything about being a dog. I am pretty shy and skittish around new people , especially men but I love cheeseburgers and summer sausage so i'm starting to learn that people are ok. I am potty and crate trained and do well in there as long as I can sleep next to my foster parents bed at night and during the day next to another dog in their crate. I get a little scared that i'm all by myself if left alone. Speaking of other animals, I LOVE them and look to them for confidence and how I should act, and play. I will need other confident resident animal(s) to continue to show me the way. I enjoy both dogs and cats and would love a few of my very own to grow up with. I am very gentle, but I would prefer older/respectful kids as loud noises and sudden movements can scare me. I will need a fenced in yard to keep me safe from exploring this big world on my own again. I am learning how to play with toys, but still grab the occasional remote, rug, or shoe so i'll need someone to continue to show me what toys are mine. I enjoy my food and haven't been silly about it, but I should still be fed separate from others since I did have to fend for myself for a while. I share all my toys so nicely with my foster siblings! I love to cuddle up on the couch with my foster mom and siblings and would make a great couch buddy. I am just soaking up being indoors, loved, fed and cared for, its been such a relief from my past. I am working on my manners but would love to go to obedience class to learn even more. My skin is healing and looks better and better but I cant wait to have all my beautiful fur back!   I am part of a promotional piece that the rescue is doing until March 28th so I will need to remain in the rescue as a foster until that time. I will need a family that will continue to work with gaining my confidence and continuing to teach me what being a dog means. If you are my perfect family please submit an adoption application to get some more information about me and my story.   My Must haves: A non electric fenced in yard (because I am easily frightened I'm a high risk for running off) , Confident companion dog (I rely heavily for confidence) , female in the household (I find females less frightening) , Patient home (I will need a good 6 months to settle in)   My Would likes: Cat (I love to play with them, i'm gentle) , Older kids ( I would love for them to throw a ball for me, but I do still have puppy tendencies) , Active home (I'm high energy, I would like to go for walks/runs) , Obedience Training (To boost my confidence and build trust with my new person)   An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.  Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals!
