Doogie Bowser here. I am approximately one yr old 55 lbs lab/pointer mix. My foster mom and the vet says I’m still under weight even though I have gained 10 lbs since arriving in Illinois. I love to play with all my foster sisters and brothers. It’s great there are puppies, little and big dogs. Boys and girls. I love to get loved on and cuddle. I am working on house training since everyone is pretty sure I have never lived in a house before. I’m just a big young pup who is ready to learn so bring on the trainer and I'll bring on the love! Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 30 days of adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, we do not permit out of state adoptions of unaltered dogs or puppies. Puppies have special needs and require a home where there will be someone available to care for, socialize, and train them during the day. If your family is away from the home for several hours at a time, please consider adopting a “teen” or adult dog. Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee). It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email safehavendogsIL@yahoo.com for an application or additional details. Like this little Buckwheat, my IBR rescue Buckwheat survived Parvo Virus at 9 weeks old and became our mascot for most of his life. This little puppy has so much potential to do the same. Please meet The Little Rascals litter. They are about 12 weeks old now and doing great in temporary foster care. We are looking for foster or foster to adopt homes in the Chicago are. The ideal candidates will have a fenced in yard and have Pointer experience. We also prefer homes with kids older than 5 if possible. Story
Sydney Pointer (click on her name to go to her Facebook album), has been in our rescue program since May of 2019. She is an "English" Pointer- not a GSP, and there are many differences. Sydney was an owner surrender and was at a shelter in Tennessee with not much hope of getting out alive.. She is about 18 months old now and full of energy- feeling so much better! She has grown in foster care and has filled out beautifully- as she was skin and bones when she came into our program. Sydney will need an adopter that has a personality as bright and silly as hers. Sydney likes to express herself with lots of woofs and high pitched soprano noises. She is so affectionate and loves to give you hugs and when you are on the couch, she loves to drape her body over you lap for pets and a good massage. She would be a good stress reliever dog as much as she loves to be touched. Sydney will need a home with at least a 6 foot privacy fence as she can clear a 4 foot fence and no small children as I always worry about kids accidentally letting the dog out. In foster care she has learned about TLC as she was hand shy- probably from being hit. She has also learned how to play with other dogs and she is cat safe. Sydney has also learned how to be a proper house dog and couch potato-- I am just so happy with her progress in foster care. With some training, I think she could make a great running partner- but she would benefit from going to the dog park too. Her new best friend is Darla. The Four Ozark Musketeer's Facebook Album (click on her name to go to her Facebook album) 8-10-2019: Chase Croix, Denver and Dexter are new little Pointer mix rescues we brought in from Southeast Missouri. They were born on 6-8 so are a little over 8 weeks old. They are doing great in foster care learning about new dogs and getting cuddles. The boys will grow to about 50lbs as adults and could be high energy. We are looking for Foster to Adopt families as they will need some important blood work when they are 8 months old. Clarice and Rudolph on Facebook Rudolph is a very handsome liver and white Field bred English Pointer. He was dumped by his breeder with his sister Clarice (recently adopted) and is around 11 months old now. We know he had some rough training as he is very hand shy around his head and ears. He is doing well in his foster home but can be shy around strangers. He needs a home with a safe fenced in yard and he also needs a playful doggie buddy to help him adjust to his new forever home. A home with loud playful kids might not be a good idea for him- so we are looking for an adult only home. NO HUNTING HOMES.
