Looking for a foster to adopt home. A secure fence is a requirement and experience with scared dogs. Charlie is from a hoarding case of over 30 small dogs. He is a cute little guy. He currently does not want to be touched yet by people but is flirty. He will take treats from you and comes close to you but isn't a fan of being handled yet. He loves playing with the other dogs in the home. He knows how to use the doggie door. He will require a fenced yard. You will not be able to leash him or pick him up for a while until you have worked with him. Charlie is a work in progress. If you are interested in working with this type of dog, Charlie has a lot of potential. He will need patients and training. We are looking for a foster to adopt home for Charlie. I wound up at a shelter in Houston, Texas not too long ago. I am heartworm positive, but don’t let that deter you! I will be completely healthy again very soon. I'm the absolute sweetest guy you've ever met. Everyone will fall in love with my floppy ears, gentle kisses, and my eagerness & excitement to go on walks! I would really enjoy a home where I can be your shadow, have a furry buddy to play and cuddle with, and a place in the house where I can sit in a warm sun beam :) I live with a small and medium sized dog and love them both. I have been more than willing to do my business outside as well. I may need a refresher course though when I get to your house. I am crate trained, and do really well in them. I would also enjoy a room to myself with my crate open so I can go in and out. I'm just a mellow guy who's looking for a relaxing home to call my own! Since Chase is heartworm positive he will need to be treated in at our clinic in Princeton. Heartworm treatment consists of 3 injections. The first injection will be in roughly 30 days after coming into rescue. The the 2nd and 3rd injections happen 30 days after that. When a dog is going through heartworm treatment, they should be on "restrictions", meaning a lot of lap time, crate time and always on a leash. Heartworm disease is NOT contagious, it is transported via mosquitos. All Ruff Start dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention (dogs) as well as heartworm tested (dogs). My two favorite things are eating and going outside! I don’t bark very much, but might bark at you to let you know that I’d like to go out. Sometimes I have a little bit of anxious energy and pace around the house. So ideally, I’d love to find a home with a big back yard that I can explore and someone who can take me for a couple walks a day. I love going on walks and I’m really good on a leash! When I get enough exercise, I love being at home and curling up (or sprawling out!) on my bed for a good nap. I am a bit skinny, but don’t let that fool you. I love to eat!! I can take treats nicely, but sometimes I get a little too excited, so make sure I’m calm first and be careful of your fingers. I really am a good boy though, so I’m working very hard to stay calm for treats. I’m getting used to getting fed twice a day regularly, but sometimes I worry that I won’t be fed and try to see if there is anything on the counter or in the cat dishes. I usually can’t find anything on the counters or reach the cat dishes though. Rats! I get along with cats and dogs. Right now, I live with 3 cats and another dog. There are even chickens outside! I’m super curious about the chickens and can you believe my foster mom lets me help her feed them?! That’s because I’m a good boy and I don’t chase them. I haven’t seen any children around here, but I’d probably be good around them too, though older kids would probably be better. I really want to find someone to let me snuggle by their feet. I would love to look longingly in their eyes while they give scritchy scratchies behind the ears. I'm about 8 years old, and with that age comes wisdom - I have never made a mess in the house, and you can trust me not to chew on any furniture. That kind of puppy behavior is not regal enough for me! I'm very responsible, and my foster mom trusts me to have the run of the house when she's gone. My favorite thing to do is snuggle, and when it's sleep time I'll get right up in your bed and crawl under the covers. I'm an easy going gal that loves long walks and I'll play if you want to! I also love taking car rides, and will even sing to keep you company on the road. I am interested in other dogs, so my foster mom thinks that with slow introductions I might do good with living with another one. I've never been around cats. When I go on long walks I am always very excited to see kiddos, so my forever family might have elementary school age or older kids.
