TOTAL SWEETHEART!!!UPDATE 1/12/20:  Rebel, a Red Tick Hound, arrived on 8/29/19; he and his brother Rock were abandoned at Lovingston Vet.  He appears to be about 4 years old and he weighs @52 pounds.  Both brothers were “total sweethearts” at the vet. (Rock has been adopted.) Rebel enjoys a massage but moves on quickly if he thinks food might be happening elsewhere.  He loves searching for “go find” kibble in the grassy yard.  He walks well on leash and will also go potty while on leash.  He is very clean in his room, does not jump up on people, and accepts treats with a very gentle mouth.  He is also friendly with other dogs.  Rebel was one of the stars of the show at a 1/11/20 outing at the Devil’s Backbone and he very much enjoyed his day trip there!  Fonda wrote: “Today I mostly handled Rebel.  He was a true southern gentleman, greeting everyone (adults, children, and other dogs) with a friendly tail wag.  He was very well behaved, walked well on a leash, and only got antsy when he clearly had to go poop.  I walked him to the edge of the dog area so he could go where he was supposed to go, and he immediately did his business in the appropriate place.  He and Pugsley became best buddies today too!” When Sigrid tested Rebel with cats, he was extremely curious and friendly, even went nose to nose with a few bold cats.  Yet, he backed away very respectfully when a cat spit at him.  (It seems like Rebel has experience with cats and is fine with them.) My name is Dixie and I'm a year old! Im looking for a forever human that I can run and play with! I would make an awesome running partner or hunting companion! I’m hoping my new human will be able to provide me with lots of space to unleash all my bottled up energy. I love to play with other dogs and I’m good with children. When I’m not being my playful self I love to cuddle up next to my human and lounge! I’m frightened by loud noises, especially thunder. But just give me a spot on the couch and wrap me in a blanket and I will be just fine until the storm passes. I am potty trained and rarely have accidents. Like all dogs I yearn to be loved and I am in search of my forever human, will that be you? Story
Howdy chums, it’s me, your friendly neighborhood Laith! I am a friendly Redbone Coonhound mix and dangit, I’m ready for my forever home. After living in the shelter and in a foster home forever, I declare that it’s high time for me to curl up on my forever couch and chew on some of those tasty forever bones and toys. I’ve come a heck of a long way from my shelter days. My foster mom’s been showing me all kinds of house dog stuff and I’m proud to say that I’m not only house trained, but I’ve got great inside manners. I don’t crate all that well but friend, you don’t even really need to crate me; I mostly like to curl up and sleep while you’re gone. Now, I’ve gotta be honest- if you try and man handle me, I will be growly and grumpy (so please don’t pull me off your couch). However, if you got a treat and some kind words, I’ll do just about anything for you; all this simple hound needs is a little kindness and some bribery. After living in a great foster home with fenced yards and other dogs, I’m confident that I’d do best in a home with a fenced yard and another dog. My favorite things in the world are car rides and playing with other dogs. So if you’re looking for a copilot to keep that passenger seat toasty, buddy, you’re looking at me! Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all- volunteer, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and hold adoption events at Petsmart in Waynesboro, VA (821 Town Center Drive Waynesboro, VA 22980) every Saturday. A $175.00 adoption fee ($200 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries. For more information and to apply to adopt, please visit www.augustadogadoptions.org If you google our address, you will be directed to Richmond. That is NOT our adoption event location. If you have questions, please message us on Facebook.
