Story
Newton is a wonderful house companion. First and foremost, he is an alpha male type and demands the respect of other pets. We got him as a rescue after he was picked up from the streets. It's clear that the love of the outdoors has never left him. This has been one of our main issues. We allow him outside under supervision, but it's not always possible to meet his needs. In a household bustling with children, adults, and other pets, he has escaped three times and stayed adrift for weeks at a time. In those periods when he has been gone, we've seen the other cat relax a lot more. This shows us that, while Newton sharing an environment with children, a dog, and another cat has been functional, it's still not the healthiest environment for either cat. We believe Newton would do well in a home with lots of outdoor space, or with an owner that can devote enough attention to meeting just his individual needs. Whoever is willing to receive him can expect an instant companion.

Story
Marshall was found outside of my apartment complex and of course I couldn't leave him out there. He is approximately a year old. I already have a female cat and bringing in a male, unknown about his past, probably wouldn't be the best. I've had him for a week now with no luck on a home. In the time he has been here I've come to see that he is a very loveable cat and loves to sleep on his back. His meow is very strange and sounds like he is yelling at you. He announces himself when he walks into a room and he is always letting you know when he is hungry. I would 100% keep him if the circumstances were different. Looking for a home that would best suit him, he doesn't need to be the only cat or animal, and he is good around kids. Please help me find him his forever home.

Story
UPDATE 2-3-20: RALPH has had all his medical needs attended to, thanks to Pound Pals Downriver. He is now back at the shelter and ready to find his "forever" home!!! Come meet Ralph and see what love and a miracle can do. MEET RALPH!! (a SENIOR)!! Ralph needs a Christmas miracle. His owner passed away last week and he simply isn’t handling things well. Shelter volunteers have moved him to a quieter room at the shelter, but Ralph has little interest in eating. Dental disease appears to be a big part of the problem, but not all. Ralph enjoys time with his volunteer friends. He enjoys being combed out and even let us clean several wounds he had. We are funding a full comprehensive medical evaluation for Ralph this week. We’re hoping to get his dental problem resolved ASAP. We’d love to see this lovely senior in a home as soon as possible. He currently resides at the Wyandotte Animal Adoption Center. 1170 Grove Adoption hours: Mon, Tues & Fri 5:30p til 7:30p and Sat 10a til 2p Does this cat get along with other cats? There is almost always an acclimation period when a new pet joins the household. We are happy to suggest a few ways to ease the transition. Does this cat respond well to dogs? The more important question is how the dog responds to cats. Most cats will adjust to a dog, given time and patience. If the resident dog's response to cats is unknown, that should be determined prior to adding a cat to the household. We can offer a few suggestions. Is this cat good with children? The better question is how the children have been taught to handle animals. A cat will respond negatively if he/she is not being handled properly. We can offer suggestions on how to teach children to interact with cats. If you're interested in meeting any of our cats or dogs, stop in during our open hours. For location and hours, see our website at https://wacshelter.com To apply to adopt online go to https://wacshelter.com/adopt-a-cat/ ALL ANIMALS LISTED AS ADOPTABLE ARE AVAILABLE TO BE ADOPTED. *ADOPTION FEE: $65 (cash only) includes spay/neuter, distemper vaccine, FIV/FeLV test, and rabies vaccine (if old enough).
