You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Pumpkin DOB: 9/23/2015 Weight: 7 lbs Adoption Fee: 375.00 Meet Pumpkin!  Pumpkin has so much personality it can barely be contained by his 7lb body!  If you want a dog with tons of playful energy, he's your guy.  He loves to fetch his favorite toys so much, he'll often throw it for himself to chase. He loves long walks and can keep up easily; he'd be a great adventure dog for hikes and other outdoor activities.  He's very athletic, and might even enjoy some agility training!  When he's burned off his ample energy, he loves to demand affection and snuggle on the couch. He sleeps very well in his crate.  He loves other dogs!  Dog-savvy cats would probably be fine, though he does have some terrier prey-drive in him.     All this personality comes with a few quirks that you should be aware of.  He's got a little bit of stranger danger, so while he might not warm up immediately, once he trusts you he's so energetic.  He's a bit mouthy when he plays, and can startle easily, and might nip in fear if approached too quickly, so no small children for him.  He still is marking some so he wears a belly band in the foster home, but does well going potty outside on a schedule.  He will bark some, so he might not be the best apartment dog   All that being said, if you're willing to work with his minor faults, you will be repaid with endless love.   He's a truly awesome little dude that will provide lifelong entertainment and adoration. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.  Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals! All Ruff Start dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention (dogs) as well as heartworm tested (dogs). Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Brutus DOB: 03/26/2018 Weight: 5.6lbs Adoption Fee: $375 Hi there! The name's Brutus.. nice to meet you! I'm a southern gentleman who  came to Minnesota not too long ago. I was found as a stray in Houston, Texas. I was being terrorized by a group of larger dogs on the streets, so I was happy when someone came to save me and bring me into their home. Now I'm just a happy and friendly guy! I bond quickly to my humans, and I love playing with other small dogs. Due to my past, I much prefer smaller dogs if I'm honest. I haven't met any felines friends though, so I'm not quite sure how I'd do with them. I ask for pets, and you can tell how much I enjoy it. I enjoy cuddling next to people on the couch, so I'd be the perfect little buddy to watch some Netflix with! What else.. well, I'm crate trained, and like to eat my meals in there. I go in at bedtime with no issue.. I also get a treat when I go in so.. lets keep that going if I come to your home, OK? :) I'm still working on my potty training, but with a schedule I should fully get the hang of it soon (I'm almost there)!  An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.  Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals! I lived at the shelter for two years, so I am adjusting to my new life in a home. I am working with a trainer in my foster house, she brings tasty treats! My foster family is helping me gain confidence with treat games, snuffle matts and other search and find games. I live with other dogs and I have a special place in the house just for me! I like watching the other dogs and I don't mind if they visit me. I am very shy, sweet and still finding myself. I am poddy pad trained. I would love someone to adopt me who has time, patience, a soft gentle touch and experience or dedication to working with fearful dogs.  An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.  Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Harry Bailey DOB: 10/30/2014 Weight: 15lbs Adoption Fee: $375 If you like unique dogs, 5-year-old Harry's looks and personality are for you! His cute expression, mismatched ears, wiggly stick-straight tail and pouty underbite will melt your heart. He has lots of energy and loves to play fetch, so he would do best in a home with a yard where he can run and get lots of exercise. A "dog on springs," he is always jumping and twisting in the air. He would probably be a great frisbee partner! He's a bit clumsy though, likely due to some arthritis in his hip, so he will need joint supplements, regular walks to ward off stiffness, and ongoing monitoring to make sure he stays comfortable as he ages.   Harry is very sweet and gets along well with other dogs and kids. He is afraid of cats and barks at them, but we're working on breaking that behavior. He understands "no" and seems to be a quick learner. When crated he barks and cries initially but will quiet down after a while. He poops outside but does mark his territory indoors so he will need a patient, tolerant owner who is willing to work with him.   Since we saved Harry from a high kill rate shelter in Texas, we don't know that much about his past. He has inflamed, very itchy skin and a bald patch on his back, so he's being treated for mange. The condition is not contagious, but it's possible that he also has some allergies going on. Time will tell as it can take months for mange to completely clear up.   Harry is a wonderful, affectionate boy who is well worth the extra TLC he needs at the moment. If you think you might be his special someone, please take a chance on meeting Harry to see for yourself how wonderful he is.   An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.  Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Rascal DOB: 1/25/2018 Weight: 13 lbs Adoption Fee: 400.00  Hey everyone! My name is Rascal, but my foster family in Texas call me Isabella. My foster family says I am a wonderful little dog and smart as a whip! I am potty trained and I walk really well on a leash.. so I'd be the perfect walking companion. I am a total lap dog though, that's for sure. If you're on the couch, hammock, or just sitting on the floor, I'll be right there to keep you company. I am a small but mighty chihuahua mix of some sort. I am crate trained and house trained. I had a few accidents when I first got to Minnesota (it's a little colder here than it was in Texas!) but once I got used to the weather I haven't had a single one. I snooze in my bed all night and don't make a peep. I have some trouble warming up to new people. Once I trust you I want to be on your lap, getting head scratches or belly rubs all the time, but it can take me some time to warm up. I love my foster mom more than anything in the whole world, but think that my foster dad and the other big humans who come to the house are a little scary. I am pretty quiet but when new people come over I like to use my big voice.  Usually I really just want to play with my toys, snooze, or eat cream cheese in my Kong.  I live with other dogs right now and I am exceptionally sweet and docile with other dogs. All in all, I get along with them great! I haven't met a cat yet though, so that would be a new adventure that I could have in MN.  I would do best in a quiet house with not very many people. I need someone who is willing to be patient and work with me on dealing with my fears. Once I know that you are all right and safe, I really am the sweetest, goofiest little love bug you will ever meet.   Since Rascal is heartworm positive.  She will need to be treated in at our clinic in Princeton. Heartworm treatment consists of 3 injections. The first injection will be in roughly 30 days after coming into rescue. The the 2nd and 3rd injections happen 30 days after that. When a dog is going through heartworm treatment, they should be on "restrictions", meaning a lot of lap time, crate time and always on a leash. Heartworm disease is NOT contagious, it is transported via mosquitos.   Here is a great article explaining what heartworm is and how it's treated: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.
Name: Prince DOB: 3/5/2017 Weight: 12 lbs Adoption Fee: 375.00 Hey everyone! My name is Prince. I came from Texas originally. I found myself in the shelter down in TX after my owner surrendered me because they were moving.  I was super sad as that was the only home I knew for so long. Luckily my foster mom saw me and opened her home to me!  Some would say that I am an old soul. I am a gentle quieter boy that just wants to hang out and bonus I love my crate! I do very well with quieter older pups but really do not care for hyper dogs. They are just too much for my personality.  I love being around people and would love to binge out in my new home and catch up on the latest episodes of Masked Singer. I am still working on my potty training but with a consistent schedule am getting better. I currently live with a cat in my foster home and to be honest that thing scares me. I am not aggressive toward it, just mostly try and run away to hide and make myself smaller.  I have not met any young kids but do live with teenagers and I do fine with them. I would think respectful kiddos would be ok with me! I can’t wait to get to Minnesota to find my fur-ever family soon.. March 21st to be exact.  An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.  Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals!
