Story
Buddy is a collie mixed with all good things!  We believe he is about 1 1/2 years old and 60 lbs.  He is just a sweet boy.  He has gotten along with other dogs and visiting dogs in his foster home from day one.  He does love to play too.  Buddy is super easy-going and a big cuddle bunny.  He loves to snuggle and get attention from you.  He does fine on the leash and has not needed to be crated as he has had no accidents and is house trained.  He likes to play in the yard, and seems to want to see the world, so a well maintained fence is a must.  Buddy is still learning some puppy manners, but nothing unusual for a young pup.  The only negative we have noticed about Buddy, is he loves to be with you on the sofa and in your bed!  Buddy does love his dog bed too, but don't be surprised if he wants to cuddle in bed. Buddy needs a home without cats or bunnies.  You can apply for Buddy at www.freedomcollierescue.org ##545924##

Story
Est DOB: 02/01/14 Approx weight: 25lbs Blakey is an absolutely adorable dog who was let down badly by his previous owners. They dropped him off at a kill shelter when he was suffering badly from colitis. Blakey was underweight and in a lot of pain. Thankfully we were able to help him. Blakey does need to be on a special diet and an enzyme powder for the rest of his life, however the enzyme medication is not expensive and the food is no more expensive than a good quality dog food. Unfortunately previous owners not only let him down when he got sick but also could not be bothered to give him heart worm prevention every month, because of this Blakey is heart worm positive. Thankfully this has been caught early, please do not rule him out because of it. He is on the slow approach to treatment which is not as hard on the dog as other treatment options you may have heard of. We will provide medication for this treatment approach for FREE! Although Blakey has some health needs, he is a dog that would really bring so much joy to a family. He is gorgeous with an amazingly soft coat, loyal and calm. Crate trained and house trained (although please expect an adjustment period) and has been good with all of the dogs in his foster home, the teenagers in the foster home (when they come home from university) and a visiting  2 year old and baby. Breed mix is unknown. Please consider making this adorable boy a member of your family and contact us to arrange to meet him. $150 adoption fee includes core vaccinations, rabies vaccination, heart worm test (in dogs over 6 months of age), microchip and registration, spay/neuter, wormer and flea and heart worm prevention while the dog is in our care.

Story
Hit F5 to refresh screen for current info.   Allie, Collie Mix, 40 lbs, 2 years old as of 2/14/2016 (#4  photo is of Allie as a puppy) Super sweet, active, playful, great with dogs, cats and just loves human companionship. Allie is perfectly crate trained and happily goes in and out when asked. Allie needs a home with tile or wood floors in case she has an accident due to her special needs. So far Allie is very good with house training as long as she is let in and out regularly. Some mornings she has pooped in her crate but she avoids it and its easy cleanup.  Allie loves to run, play with the other dogs and chase birds. Allie stands and walks great on all 4 legs though when she overdoes it or gets to running too fast she can start to drag her rear leg thus sometimes getting dirty from my flower beds. Allies is a delightful dog with an infectious smile and wants to please. Allie was adopted and recently returned due the adopters serious health issues requiring hospitalization. Allie is looking for a home with some dogs and a family to entertain this special girl.   Special Needs: HCR took Allie in at 4 months of age and spent thousands of dollars with MRI's and specialists only to learn that Allie has a subarachnoid cyst between her spinal column and the sheath that covers  (L1 ).  It is compressing her nerves and also pushing the bones behind it apart.  Highly unusual for this to happen, can be congenital or result of trauma. We've even received reports from expert radiologist to verify findings since this is so unusual. Doctors have confirmed any surgery would be very risk and could leave her paralyzed since they'd have to cut on spinal column sheath to open cyst and relieve pressure. Additionally there is not guarantee the cyst would not return after surgery. Story
Hit F5 to refresh screen for current info.   Hi there! I’m Queena. I’m an eleven year old beauty with lots of love to give. I get along well with other dogs and cats, but I especially enjoy spending time with my family. I’m very affectionate and love to give people my paw. I have a beautiful shiny coat that my foster mom says is super easy to brush because I’m such a good girl. I take a couple medications to help me feel my best, but the vet says I’m doing really great for an 11 year old. I’m current on vaccines, heartworm prevention, and just had my teeth cleaned! I will be ready for adoption at the end of March after I recover from my spay surgery.   Follow us on facebook https://www.facebook.com/HoustonCollie   Please visit www.houstoncollierescue.org to submit an adoption or foster application.

Story
Suzie is shy, but still a total sweetheart! She loves to be pet and takes it as a comfort. She also enjoys treats. The loudness and chaos of shelter life is a lot for any dog, and Suzie seems to be a sensitive soul. She gets overwhelmed and huddles in the back corner of her kennel when you first go and visit her, but she’s definitely open to being pet! She’s just unsure of herself. She relaxes more when she’s outside of her kennel where it’s a bit quieter. Suzie doesn’t seem to have much experience on a leash. They confuse her and she doesn’t know what she’s supposed to do. She sort of locks up at first, but given time and patience she will walk on it a little in the peace and quiet of a play yard. For now her preferred method of travel is being picked up and carried – especially if you wrap her in a snuggly blanket first. Suzie’s nerves don’t allow her to run and play much. She prefers to stay mostly in one spot and look around at what’s happening around her. Once she’s surveyed the scene and okayed it she’ll walk around a little bit. She still seems to have a lower energy level.
