Story
In the summer of 2017, a truck driver dropped Penny off at Texas Litter Control in Spring, Texas, saying that he rescued her out of a nearby street. No one knows what kind of life she may have had  up to that point. TLC spayed and vaccinated her, before turning her over to a nearby rescue. Penny was quickly adopted by a nice family but unfortunately their dog did not like her, so she was returned to the Rescue. Because this rescue has mostly large dogs, Penny was transferred to Emmy's Hope Rescue in October 2017, Penny is very shy and nervous when she first meets new dogs and humans. She does not do well with busy, bouncy young children. Although she has made progress at the rescue with accepting new things, she continues to learn how to handle scary situations. Penny is a "lover" after she trusts you and she loves to sit in her favorite human's lap!  Penny will need a quiet family that has lots of patience and love to help her develop the confidence she needs to live a happy life. Estimated birth date: June 2014 Approximate weight: 25 lbs. *** Penny's a "stretch", measuring about 40" from the tip of her nose to the tip of her tail. :)) If you would like to meet Penny, please call or text Stephanie at: 281-622-6549 *** ADOPTION  CRITERIA *** YOU MUST: 1. Live in the Houston area (no more than an hour's drive away). 2. Be 21 years or older. 3. Have a fenced yard. 4. Have at least 2 years of good vet history, with current and / or past pets, including: annual Rabies and DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo, Parainfluenza) vaccinations, annual heart worm test and using a monthly heartworm preventative. INTERESTING DACHSHUND HISTORY ~ The Dachshund was created in Germany where he was known as the badger dog, dachs meaning badger and hund meaning dog. Illustrations of dogs resembling Dachshunds date to the 15th century, and documents from the 16th century mention the "earth dog," "badger creeper," and "dachsel." Badger wasn't the Dachshund's only prey. He was also used on den animals such as foxes, and packs of Dachshunds trailed wild boar. Those early Dachshunds varied greatly in size. The dogs used on badgers and boar weighed 30 to 35 pounds. Dachshunds used to hunt foxes and deer weighed 16 to 22 pounds, and smaller 12-pound Dachshunds hunted hares and weasels. For a brief time in the early 20th century, 5-pound Dachshunds were used to bolt cottontail rabbits.

Story
Maverick was adopted 10 years ago from our local animal shelter. He is a great dog. He wants to eat and sleep and lay out in the sunshine. We have two other dogs and as they are all aging, they are no longer playing well together. We have small children and the scuffles amongst the dogs is becoming worrisome. Maverick is not the instigator of the fights. It breaks our heart to rehome him, but we also want him to enjoy his life. We believe he is 12 years old but do not know for sure.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All dogs listed here are available for adoption from Yorkie Rescue Houston.  Our goal is to ensure our rescued pets go to their forever home and never end up back in the system.  To that end, an application is required on all potential adopters.   Our adoption fee varies by dog.  We accept cash only. Puppies too young to be spayed/neutered are available for Foster-to-Adopt only.  A FTA contract is required.   Introducing Ellie2. Ellie is a 1-2 year old female dachsund yorkie who was surrendered to the Montgomery County Animal shelter because she chases cats. We have not seen that to be the case.  She is energetic and loves to play, so this is probably not a good dog for a senior or apartment situation. Lovable and would be a great family pet. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.
