Story
Adoptions currently on hold during Illinois stay at home order due to coronavirus. Sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Moose is a senior ( 10+ years) who came to us as an unclaimed stray. He is currently a medical case and not yet available for adoption. Sweet sweet boy. When ready, Moose will need a retirement home that can provide the care and love he needs for his senior years to be the best years of his life. His condition at arrival is indicative of being neglected for some time but he is feeling better each day. Please wish him well and check back for updates and pictures.

Story
Following is a list of our sanctuary dogs with brief descriptions. We try to evaluate each new rescue carefully in regard to temperament and the reality is that sometimes we get a dog that displays behaviors we can manage here at the rescue but that we are not comfortable placing with most or any adopters. These behaviors usually involve their guardian breed characteristics and a lack of proper socialization and experiences when younger but can also just be their genetic personality and temperament. Being in a more rural and controlled situation here at the rescue, rather than in a busy and /or neighborhood environment, we can insure a consistent routine and monitor everyone closely. We work to insure all the sanctuary dogs have the best quality life possible. They have heated and air conditioned large inside kennels with Kuranda beds, outside runs and a 4 acre yard to play in, patrol and guard. We also integrate inside the house time into their routines as space and personalities permit but they still require their kennel space part of the time and in certain situations. The dogs are matched up in compatible play pairs or groups based on their personality so they have friends to play and patrol the yard with. All of our sanctuary rescues are fully vetted and kept up to date on any and all needed vet care as well as groomed regularly and worked with on training and manners. And very importantly, they are much loved, flaws and all. Please consider helping to sponsor the care of one of our sanctuary rescues. Contributions toward the care of the dogs at the rescue are helpful and greatly appreciated as well as tax deductible. Max .... 10+ years old, has been a resident since 2012. Max reacts aggressively toward strangers and although he has mellowed out in his senior years with some visitors to the rescue, he is unpredictable about what sets him off with others. Max has been and is being sponsored by GPRCI supporters Chris and Dana. Chris is a long time volunteer who Max knows and trusts. He enjoys very much when Chris visits. Thank you Chris and Dana. Nakoma.....8 year old female Pyrenees mix has pretty severe stranger fear aggression. With repeated visits Nakoma gets comfortable with new people who are confident with her and brave enough to ignore her during intros, as our volunteers have proven, but she barks and snarls aggressively at new people when approached on her home turf quite sure they are up to no good. Nakoma is one who gets a good bit of inside time as she is a perfectly behaved couch potato most of the time but requires her kennel space when anyone she doesn't know is on or coming on property. Tutt.......10+ year old senior male who came to us in late 2018 as a stray from a local animal control. Tutt presented as a neglected sweet old boy with high grade heart murmur and some skin issues. He was adopted into a wonderful home but was returned when he presented some previously unknown food issues and bit the adopters friend. There were some mitigating circumstances in regard to the bite and we have seen no further human aggression, but we won't risk another and he will stay with us at GPRCI. Sadie.....3 year old Pyrenees Komondor mix. Sadie was not socialized well when younger. Her lack of socialization has resulted in Sadie being untrusting and somewhat unpredictable with strangers, especially on home turf and with her strong guardian genetics. We changed Sadie's status from adoptable to sanctuary after she started exhibiting escalating territorial aggressive behavior toward strangers/visitors. Bentley...6 year old male with confinement and separation issues with us since mid 2017. Bentley requires our heaviest fortress of a kennel when he cannot be outside or supervised closely inside. Not much holds this guy in or keeps him out of things if he puts his mind to it. He is smart and very single minded. It took a long time when he arrived but he has adjusted well now, feels at home and secure, and no longer needs the heavy anti-anxiety meds he arrived with.

Story
Adoptions currently on hold during Illinois stay at home order due to coronavirus. Sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Fannie is a beautiful petite female, who arrived with two pups (already adopted) from a nearby animal control. She is not much more than a pup herself and estimated at 2 years old or less. Fannie is a very gentle, sweet girl. She is putting in a beautiful new thick coat having now been spayed and no longer using her nutrition to feed her pups. She would match up very well to a young male playmate/ companion. She will have things to learn about living in a house but if her behavior here at the rescue if any indication, she will learn quickly and love being part of the family. If interested in adopting Fannie, please visit our website at gprci.com for adoption information and an adoption application. A securely fenced/yard property will be required for safe outside time.

Story
Adoptions currently on hold during Illinois stay at home order due to coronavirus. Sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Archie is new to our program and still has some vetting and grooming to complete to be ready for adoption. He is currently in a foster home here in Bloomington Normal. Living inside is new to Archie and his foster mom is helping him get comfortable with that. He is a very sweet, friendly, approximately 2 year old boy and quite handsome also. Archie has a history of going on walkabout adventures and will require a tall secure fence for safe outside time. We are still getting to know him but he seems dog friendly is far and just a really nice boy. When ready, Archie will need an adopter able and willing to work with him on things and situations he is not yet familiar with but with some time and additional social experience we are confident Archie can be a star! He has made great progress already with the help of a wonderful foster.

Story
Adoptions currently on hold during Illinois stay at home order due to coronavirus. Sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. This beautiful young lady is Rhea Rae (pronounced Rae Rae). She came to us from a northern Illinois animal control after being surrendered by her owners. Rhea Rae is being fostered in Woodridge Illinois and I will let her tell you about herself via her foster mom. "Hi my name is Rhea Rae. I'm a 16-18 month old female Great Pyrenees/ Anatolian Shepherd mix and you'll never guess that I'm 100 lbs but I have long legs. I am currently in a foster home in the Woodridge, IL with 3 male Great Pyrenees. I love all the male dogs in the house especially the 2-year old hunk. Hubba hubba! We are best buds. I do okay with female dogs visiting, if they mind their manners, but do enjoy the company of males better. I am also great with the 2 cats in the house. I am housebroken and know all your basic commands. Sit, stay, shake, come and do fine in a crate if needed but am not crated while my foster mom is at work. The groomer said I was wonderful for my recent full groom. I can knock the door bells off the door knob like nobody's business when I want to go out potty or just want to go out. I love to give kisses, give Pyr paw and Pyr hugs. Don't let my cute innocent puppy dog eyes fool you. I do know how to work the system. I would do best with someone experienced or knowledgeable about my breeds as I am skeptical of new people at first and need proper introduction by my trusted human to unknown visitors entering my home. An adults only home with a secure taller fence ( I can climb 4 foot chain link) and a well socialized, confident, younger male dog as a companion would be my ideal home." Please visit our website gprci.com if interested Rhea Rae.
