Story
Huck / M / Approx. 1 year / 48 lbs / Labrador Mix / Brantford Meet Huck! Through no fault of his own, Huck recently found himself at a high kill shelter win Tennessee. Although he waited and waited, no one ever came for him. He has since made his way to Canada and waits with his loving foster family for his forever home! Huck’s foster family describe him as happy, rambunctious, playful, active, loving, friendly and eager to please. His underbite and curious head tilt only add to his adorable and lovable nature. He is always ready to walk and play, and wants to be wherever his family is. He is described as a true “Man’s Man” as he loves to eat, sleep, exercise, be outdoors, play sports and then just chill out. Huck loves to meet new people, and greets everyone on the street with a happy face and wagging tail. Huck is so good looking, that he has been known to stop foot traffic just so people can tell him how handsome he is (which he loves)! He is still very young, so has puppy energy and playfulness, he will need someone with the time to devote to his stimulation and exercise needs. He has been doing well with three walks a day, including quick breaks to relieve himself and prevent accidents. If he gets enough play time and exercise, he is tuckered out by the end of the day and will put himself to bed in his crate when he’s ready. Although Huck is truly a “people dog”, he is meeting dogs he likes and plays with respectfully. When he is familiar with a dog, he will nip at them to try and get them to engage in play, this behaviour should be monitored and redirected if necessary. He will need a family willing to continue his socialization and proper greetings with other dogs. Huck is working through some anxiety when it comes to city living. He is very fearful of loud or unexpected noises, so would prefer a home in quiet country. He loves the out doors, and would prefer a family who loves outside as much as he does. He likely hasn’t a lot of exposure or training while on leash, so he will need a family who will to be patient and help him learn proper leash walking and etiquette. Huck is extremely smart and eager to please, his food motivation has made obedience training a breeze. In just a few short weeks he has mastered sit and down, and is working on paw, place, stay and roll over. Huck is working on his potty training, but given he is young and adjusting to life inside, his forever family should expect accidents and be committed to his training journey. His foster family has gone above and beyond with his training so far, and his new family should continue teaching him basic commands as he loves to learn! Unsurprisingly based on Huck’s demeanour, he loves children as well and would do well in a home with older, respectful children who love to play. Younger children would not be ideal as he does not understand how big he is, and will more than likely knock them over or play too rough. He has not been tested with cats, and with his love of chasing squirrels and rough play, would prefer a home without one. Huck has done very well learning boundaries in the home, but will need support learning appropriate places to chew. If he has had enough exercise and has a bone available, his foster family has seen easy success redirecting the behaviour. Huck does not like to be alone, and likes his humans to be visible at all times. Due to this, he will likely experience some separation anxiety during his transition/decompression period in his new home. He truly is a companion dog and would prefer a family who is home more often than not, but will also continue to build his confidence on being alone. If you’re interested in fostering with the intention of adopting, please apply at http://www.fetchandreleash.ca/dog-adoption/. Huck’s adoption fee is $525. Story
Lacrae / M / approx. 2 yrs / 60 lbs / Lab Hound Mix / Kitchener, ON Meet Lacrae! Lacrae was recently rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas where his time had run out due to overcrowding. Thankfully, we were able to pull him just in the nick of time. Lacrae’s foster mum describes him as a sweet, loving, gentle, kind, smart, eager to please, playful old soul. Fondly nicknamed wiggle butt, Lacrae’s tail is almost always wagging! With his trusted humans, he is an affectionate love bug that just wants to cuddle and to give kisses. He loves to follow his people around in hopes of securing a pet or a kind word. When you pet him he will gaze up at you in gratitude with his warm, sweet brown eyes. It’s enough to melt anyone’s heart! Lacrae’s favorite activities include playing with his stuffies, running around in the backyard and wrestling with his canine foster siblings. He is sometimes vocal when playing with his dog pals, but it seems to be in fun and for the most part he does respect his partners play style. Lacrae has not spent any time with small dogs but did growl and bark at one that was barking at him through the fence in the backyard. Lacrae is very treat motivated and his foster was able to redirection his attention back to her. When meeting a familiar face, Lacrae approaches with confidence, tail wags and a toy in his mouth. When meeting new people inside of the home, he has barked and growled and so it’s best he meets them outside first. Outside, he can be shy initially but does warm up quickly when allowed to approach on his own terms…especially if they have treats! On walks, he sniffs people as they walk by, but he doesn't stop. Although not tested with kids, his foster believes he’d do well with older, respectful children who understand dog etiquette. Lacrae’s ideal family will have lots of people to love and dote on him, and preferably, someone that will not leave him alone for a full work day. He is an extremely social dog and would make an excellent office pup. Lacrae would be happy to have a well-adjusted dog sibling, but could be the only dog as well. No cats please. Lacrae would appreciate having a fenced yard to run in after his walks, but as long as he received adequate exercise, this would not be necessary. His fosters are unsure if he is vocal when they leave and so condo living might not be ideal either. Lacrae is medium energy and would do best with a 30-45 min walk before and after work plus potty breaks and play time. He walks very nicely on leash, with no pulling and or reactivity to other dogs, people or noises. Lacrae does like to walk at a leisurely speed, but will match your speed if you want to pick up the pace. When his fosters go out, Lacrae is crated and typically settles until his mid-day potty break. House training is a work in progress but with a consistent routine and a patient family, he should pick it up quickly. Lacrae does not yet know any basic commands, but is so eager to please his people! His new family should be prepared to invest in training classes. Lacrae was recently diagnosed with heartworm but is expected to make a full recovery. His adopters must be willing to follow through with our “slow kill” heartworm treatment protocol and travel to our partner vet in Mississauga every 3-6 months. Fetch & Releash will cover the cost of the doxycycline, the first 6 months of his heartworm prevention medicine (adopter pays for the next 6 months) as well as the 2 blood tests 6 months apart provided they are done at our partner clinic in Mississauga. If you’re interested in adopting Lacrae, please apply at http://www.fetchandreleash.ca/dog-adoption/. Lacrae’s adoption fee is $525. Story
Trudy / F / 11 mos / 34 lbs / Catahoula Feist Mix / Brampton Meet Trudy! Trudy is described as playful, friendly, energetic and loving. Her overall vibe is that of a typical puppy with a lot of love to give. Trudy loves to meet new people and greets everyone with affection and a friendly face. Trudy loves her humans and will follow you wherever you go! She can't wait to find her forever companions. Trudy’s favorite activities are playing with her humans (the more the merrier) and canine companions. In saying this, she would do best with a second dog that loves to play just as much as she does. Trudy loves to be outside and will run laps for hours. She would benefit from a large fenced yard to run zoomies in after her walks. Although she is very playful with her dog pals, she is learning to respect the space of her foster siblings when they no longer want to play. She would do best with another playful dog who will be patient while she learns appropriate play behaviour. Her forever family should be committed to helping her learn these boundaries. When meeting new people in the home, Trudy is very excited and generally has good manners, however is still learning not to jump on people. While on leash, Trudy can be fearful about meeting new people and dogs. Her adoptive family should be committed to helping her overcome these fears, and continuing the work on building her confidence and social skills. Trudy’s ideal family will be active, energetic and have some dog experience. Trudy does not like to be alone and is looking for a family that’s home more often than not. She would make a great office dog! Trudy is vocal when alone and so condo living in not ideal. She can be mouthy in play and for this reason would be most successful in a home with older (14+), respectful kids that understand dog etiquette. She would also do best in a home without cats, but a dog savvy cat that can tolerate her high energy might be okay. Trudy is a high energy dog and will require a family committed to ensuring she receives lots of play time and mental stimulation to drain her energy. She is nervous on walks and would prefer a home in a quiet neighbourhood. Her family should be patient on walks and allow her the time she needs to sit and process her surroundings. A canine sibling will also help show her how fun walks can be, and that there’s nothing to fear! House training is a work in progress. She is pee pad trained and if there are no pee pads out, Trudy will use a rug or mat. She is learning to go outside and will need regular potty breaks to ensure her continued success. When alone or unsupervised, Trudy is crated. Still very much a puppy, she is a chewer and is learning what is and is not appropriate to chew. She is vocal when alone and her new family should be prepared to helping her overcome her separation anxiety. Trudy is a very smart girl, who has already learned sit, paw, stay and some recall. She would benefit greatly from a family who enjoys teaching her new tricks and one that has interest in agility training. If you are interested in adopting Trudy, please fill out an application at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/dog-adoption Trudy’s adoption fee is $525. Story
Crissy / F / approx. 9 yrs / 61 lbs / Catahoula Leopard Dog / Toronto Meet Crissy! Crissy is best described as calm, sweet, sassy, timid and independent. She loves to be brushed and will accept pets, but for the most part she is content to just be near her people. Aside from being brushed, Crissy enjoys going on long walks though quiet streets. After her walk, she can often be found snoring away on a comfy bed, tongue poking out! Still adjusting to live in a home, Crissy would benefit from having another well-adjusted dog sibling to show her the ropes. Don’t let her age fool you! She has lots of life left to live and enjoys running and playing with her dog pals. She is not cat tested. When meeting new people, Crissy can be shy and needs an understanding family that will give her the time and space she needs to come out of her shell. She would probably tolerate older, respectful children, however a kid free home is preferred. Crissy is looking for a warm and welcoming place to spend her retirement years. Although she can be independent, her ideal family will work from home or in a dog friendly office. Crissy has earned a retirement where she will be the apple of someone’s eye and not be left alone for long work-days. Her ideal home is a quiet, low key a family that lives in a lower traffic neighbourhood. Having lived on a farm her whole life, she is frightened of loud noises and things that are new to her. Strollers, bikes, cars and strangers are scary! Her new family will need to be patient and help build her confidence through gradual exposure to new people and places. Adorably loud snore aside, Crissy is a very quiet dog and could live in condo so long as her exercise needs were met. She can be hesitant to do her business in front of strangers and would appreciate having a private fenced yard, but it is not mandatory. Crissy is lower energy and currently enjoys a few 20 min walks throughout the day plus potty breaks. She would be happiest walking in a quiet park or side street because she is fearful of cars and of meeting other dogs. So long as she's with her trusted handler, she does walk by them though without issue though, Crissy is a bit of a puller and will need a confident handler. When her people go out, she is trusted with free reign of a doggy proofed space and settles quietly for up to 5 hours. Crissy is potty trained provided she receives opportunities to go outside every few hours. She has not year learned how to ask to go outside and may have accidents if her people are not consistent with potty breaks. Crissy is eager to please and responds well to positive reinforcement based training. At night, Crissy sleeps on the couch. She mostly sleeps through the night but will sometimes gets up to eat her dinner and drink because she is still too nervous to eat in front of her humans. If you’re interested in adopting Crissy, please apply at http://www.fetchandreleash.ca/dog-adoption/. Crissy’s adoption fee is $420. Story
Big Boss / Male / Approx. 5 yrs / 54 lbs / Shepherd Mix / Toronto Meet Big Boss AKA Boss! Boss has overcome so many hardships in his life. From fighting his way back from near death on the streets of Bahrain, to travelling all the way to Canada to start his new life! The fact this guy still takes joy in life and is able to love is simply amazing. Boss’ foster describes him as a happy go lucky boy with a unique and quirky personality. He is best known for being independent, loving, silly and playful. Boss lives for his walks and absolutely loves being outdoors, sniffing and prancing around. Indoors he is content to hangout and receive all the head rubs he can get. If he is feeling silly, he enjoys playing with his toys. Boss is also extremely smart, loves treats and is very motivated to learn for them. When meeting new people, Boss can be unsure at first but warms up quickly if allowed to approach on his own terms. Once he gets to know you, you are a member of his pack. He is ride or die loyal to the end and an overall great companion. Boss can be a little rough in play and so bigger, dog savvy kids are best. Boss’ ideal living scenario is a house in the burbs with room to run and play. He would do best in a family that is active and appreciates the outdoors as much as he does. Summers at the cottage would be a dream come true for this boy! Boss can be picky with his dog pals but does still have some dog pals he plays with regularly. When high value treats or toys are removed from the equation, he’d probably enjoy having social visit from his dog friends but would likely be most successful as the only dog in the home. No cats please. Boss is medium energy and currently enjoys a 30 min walk before work, 60 mins after and potty breaks in between. Boss walks well on a front clip harness, but does sometimes bark at other dogs he sees. He has been working hard on his redirection training and has been making good paw-gress. His new family should be prepared to continue the work. Boss is trusted with free reign of the home for up to 7 hours and is a very good boy while his foster mum is way. Provided he receives consistent opportunities to go outside, he is also house trained. Boss knows his basic commands such as "sit", "paw" and "come". He can jump when overly excited, so a family that can help teach him to better contain his love is important. He’d also appreciate a family that will invest in group training classes where he can work on his doggy socialization. If you are interested in adopting Big Boss, please fill out an application at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/dog-adoption/. Big Boss’ adoption fee is $525 + HST. Story
Belinda / F / approx. 1 year / 26 lbs / Cattle Dog Beagle Mix / Hamilton Belinda is described by her foster as the sweetest, most loving and gentle dog. At first she is very timid, but once you have earned her trust, she is extremely affectionate and loyal. Belinda is always excited to see you when you get home loves to give cuddles and kisses. She is happiest when by your side and would be content to just be with her people all day. In recent weeks, Belinda has started to come out of her shell a bit and enjoys playing with toys and her friends – both two legged and four! She also very much enjoys her walks and going for rides in the car. When meeting new people, especially men, Belinda is cautious but also curious. She will usually retreat to her crate until she feels brave enough to venture out, but with a little love and patience, her loving personality soon shines through. Although very gentle, Belinda would prefer a home with calmer, older kids that understand dog etiquette. Belinda’s new family will need to be patient, understanding and willing to continue the work with building her confidence. She is very timid in new situations and needs time to adjust. She would also benefit from another confident dog sibling to show her the ropes. She loves all dogs and is very submissive and laid back. She is not cat tested. Belinda would be most comfortable in a quieter suburban neighbourhood and could live in a house or condo so long as her exercise needs were met. She is lower energy and would do fine with a 20 min walk before and after work plus potty breaks. New to leash walking, she is nervous when in new areas but is getting more confident and excited about walks each day. Belinda is crate trained and can be left for up to 6 hours. Although she could probably be trusted with free reign of the home, her crate is her safe space and her new family should be willing to provide one for her comfort. She is house trained so long as she receives adequate potty breaks. Belinda does not yet know much in the way of basic commands, and once she feels comfortable in her new home, she’d benefit from a basic obedience class. She does recognize her own name though and comes excitedly when called. If you are interested in adopting Belinda, please fill out an application at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/dog-adoption/ Belinda's adoption fee is $525.
