Story
Toro! Toro! Toro! Just look at this beautiful boy. He is a hard working dog with lots of energy and athleticism and is ready to follow your commands and lead. He loves to chase balls and is alert to your guidance. Toro is very sweet but had a tough start in life so will need some extra care and work by his adopter. Someone who is experienced with this breed would be perfect! He is still very young and is a bit mouthy but redirects easily and happily. He can leap tall buildings in a single bound so will need a very secure yard to run around in. And if you need a working dog this smart boy is perfect for you. He walks well on a leash but would benefit from additional leash and general obedience training. He is motivated by treats so is easily trainable. But mostly Toro is motivated by love. He is completely devoted to his handler. Toro is a very big and strong boy that plays hard so a home with children would not be ideal unless his person is an experienced and confident handler. He has been tested with other dogs and is just a bundle of fun. He will definitely need a lot of exercise and would do well in a home with other dogs. Because he just loves company whether two legged or four legged.....it doesn't matter to Toro because he just wants to be a part of the Pack. He has been working with a professional trainer who has assessed him as being incredibly smart and believes he should go to a home that plans on working with him a lot. Again, probably not a good fit for a family with children. Toro is a healthy boy and prior to leaving our Baja rescue he will be given another full medical assessment to insure he remains in optimum health. Please review our Adopt-a-Pet page for further details about adoption fees and any possible transportation costs/issues. Or call with any further questions you may have about this lovable and delightful pup. Toro currently lives in Baja near Cabo San Lucas.

PUPPIES! PUPPIES! PUPPIES! BOY, DO WE WE HAVE PUPPIES! Black, white, tricolor, big, medium and small. Every shape, breed and size you can imagine. Our lovable Baja Mixes are known for their "smarts" and gentle temperaments. Cortez Rescue will only adopt our puppies out when they are healthy and well socialized. They are just waiting to come home and add joy and love to your family today! Above you see the lovable little Stetson. Born 1/12/20, we do not know much about him other than a local farmer brought the entire litter to the community market and asked us to please find them all a good home. Which we will....but only with your help. All puppies in this litter appear healthy at this time and we will add more info to this Bio as it becomes available. Unless otherwise agreed to, all puppies adopted through Cortez Rescue will receive thorough vetting meaning that they will get all their shots and get sterilized. Story
Flaco is a semi-shy bundle of fun! He is very sweet and athletic and will play with you at the beach or go for long walks in the mountains. Whatever you want...Flaco will be right there at your side. But he is a bit shy and takes a while to trust. Probably because he was surrendered to us suddenly and still isn't quite sure what is going on. He came to us to us because his long time person became too ill to care for him but loved him enough to make sure he found a good place to be rescued. He likes people and gets on well with other dogs if introduced slowly. A total low maintenance dog. But he does like to move. Being locked in a kennel or crate is really hard for him but when we let him out his joy is freed and he loves to explore and entertain himself. Born around October 2013, he tested positive for tick fever at this time but now healthy as can be. Other than that Flaco has no other medical issues and prior to leaving our Baja rescue he will be fully vaccinated, treated for tick fever and given another full medical assessment to insure he remains in optimum health. Flaco currently lives in Baja near Cabo San Lucas. Please review our Adopt-a-Pet page for further details about adoption fees and any possible transportation costs/issues. Story
Charlie arrived at the rescue and he stole our hearts. We know very little about his past but looks like he had a rough go of things. A lovely woman thinks someone threw him over her fence when she found him in her yard. She kept him for a couple of months but had to return to the United States so she lovingly and sadly surrendered him to us. Today he happily greets us at the kennel gate and trusts that his next meal and new forever home is right around the corner. Recently, we noticed that his neck has a terrible rope burn which probably earned him his original name SCAR. But we just couldn't call him that because he is so much more than a scar. He is our lovable Charlie. Born in January 2019, he is such an intelligent boy full of charm, energy, and lots of love to give. We just started teaching him his manners and already he is a star pupil. He learned to sit and listen immediately. And though he pulls when he walks we started using a prong collar on him and it works like a charm. He has become a very good walker on the prong collar and we suspect once he realizes he no longer has to pull to get to whatever he wants he will be an excellent walking companion. And boy does this dog love people. He just looks at you and hearts pop out of his eyes. Charlie has not been tested with other dogs, nor with kids or cats. He has demonstrated some profound resource guarding around food but with a little patience and education on the part of his adopter we expect this can be managed. Here at the rescue we are working on techniques to manage his resource guarding and he has gotten better but any adopter would have to consider this prior to adopting him. We would recommend he not go to a home with children. His ideal home would be one devoted to his handsome presence with no other animals. Charlie is in excellent health and prior to leaving our Rescue he will be given another full medical evaluation. We just love Charlie's resilience and zest for life. He quickly has become one of the Staff's favorites because of his intelligence and unconditional love. Charlie currently lives in Baja near Cabo San Lucas. Please review our Adopt-a-Pet page for further details about adoption fees and any possible transportation costs/issues.
