Story
This beautiful spirit has had quite a rough life prior to being rescued, but has won the hearts of all who meet him. He is being treated for heart worm infection by the slow-kill method using Advantage Multi and will need another heart worm test in in about three months. Typically, dogs are negative after six months on this treatment. The medication will come with him to finish his six months of treatment. Spike has a little pucker in his bottom lip and missing his front bottom teeth where he was mauled by a larger dog in the same previous household. He has multiple scars but he is a survivor. Spike was extremely hyper when he arrived, but after being neutered he has calmed down a great deal and become very loving. He is 7 to 8 years old but has a lot of energy and NEEDS A FENCE to be able to play. Spike's adopter will need to have the energy to work with this 22 pound ruffian. He is in a foster home with a spayed female and there was never a problem after he set dominance, but has not tolerated other dogs, especially larger dogs. He will need to be crated when alone as he has no boundaries and can jump up to the kitchen counters if he wants. Spike will not do well with children of any age, as again he does not know any boundaries and everything he sees is HIS. Sharing has not caught on with him yet, but he will at times allow his foster fur-sister to play with HIS toys. He loves to sleep under the covers and takes his toy of the day with him. He is house trained and goes up to 5 hours in the crate. He does not like to go out in the rain so his toy has to be thrown out for him to run after and then he will do his business. He had a prolapsed rectum when he came into rescue and after neutering it has mostly subsided, only protruding when he plays and chews hard with a toy. With all this being said, he is one of the most wonderful babies his foster mom has the had the opportunity to foster, but Spike needs a younger, more athletic person or couple to be his family. Spike Otis is neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated. To find out more about him, call his foster mom, Mary, at 704-668-9410. His adoption fee is $300.00 He is fostered in the Charlotte, NC, area. The 1st step is always an application found at: www.bostonterriertn.org We prefer homes with prior Boston Terrier experience and current pet history is a plus. No homes with large dogs or children please. Please be prepared to meet Spike near his foster home. NOTE: Submission of an application and fee does not guarantee adoption of any specific Boston, since that particular dog may have applications pending or may not be the right match for you. Please use the foster momma or dad's contact information above for questions. The process always begins with an application which can be found at The Boston Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee website Note that in most cases, we do not adopt to families with small children, e.g., 'under 6,' as a precaution to the child's safety and the dog's safety. In some cases with larger Boston mixes or other dogs, we do make exceptions. Please ask the foster momma. We prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to personally drive/fly to get the dog. The East Coast division (NC/SC/VA/MD/DC) does have special transport capabilties for their kids. Ask them. Also, submission of an application and fee does not guarantee adoption of any specific Boston since that particular dog may have applications pending or may not be the right match for you.
