Story
Milly was found outside and is a sweet, beautiful girl. She will need some time to adjust to her new home because she is a bit sensitive. If you're ready to adopt now and want to learn more about, meet, or adopt this pet, you can start the process in one of two ways: Come on in during open adoption hours Tuesday - Saturday 12:30-3:00! For in-shelter pets (not in foster care) coming in ASAP is the fastest way to adopt. **the below two methods are slower than visiting us** Call us (413-781-4000 x 1) or email us (springfield@dakinhumane.org) for more information about a pet. We are often on the line with another client, but we return voice mail and emails within 24 hours. All cat adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies vaccine -current distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -FeLV/FIV blood test -microchip implanted & registered to the adopter -treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your new pet.

Story
Amber is a little princess. She loves being with her people and if she can't find you, she'll sit down and yell until you respond to her. She LOVES to climb but hasn't quite mastered the getting down part yet so she occasionally gets stuck. Not to worry, she'll yell for help in her tiny little voice. She will do great as a companion cat as she enjoys following her person around during the day. She gets along great with other cats and while she's hesitant of dogs at first, she warms up quickly. If you're ready to adopt now and want to learn more about, meet, or adopt this pet, you can start the process in one of three ways: Come on in during open adoption hours Tuesday - Saturday 12:30-3:00! Check out the video (above, with the pictures) for top tips on how to bring a kitten like this home with you and integrate them into your home! All kitten adoption fees include; -spay/neuter -rabies vaccination (if over 12 weeks of age) -current on distemper vaccines (will need additional boosters with your veterinarian) -FeLV blood test -microchip implanted & registered to the adopter -treatment of fleas/ticks/ear mites -veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin -free vet exam within 30 days after adoption with participating veterinarians Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Story
Meet Tiger! Don't be fooled by his name; this guy is a little scaredey cat. It takes him a while to trust people and feel comfortable in new places. He will need someone who understands and has the patience to let him open up in his own time. Once he does feel comfortable, he is described as friendly, quiet, and playful. The way to his heart is through his stomach with tasty wet food and smelly treats. He has experience with other cats but never with any other animals. Change is hard for this cat. This cat will be very nervous when you first bring them home. You will need to set up a room with a litter box, food, and water. It will take days for this cat to become comfortable and confident in the new home. This cat will be going home with a behavior plan that will need to be followed in order for everyone to transition successfully. Story
Ziggy and Jareth are looking for a barn/working home together. They will need a heat source this winter and will need strict confinement for a minimum of one month. Cats in our Barn Cat program fall into one of two categories: Cats who are social but too feisty in interactions with people here at Dakin. Cats who are shy or fearful of people, and who prefer the company of other cats and animals. Please note, we do not adopt cats who are suitable to be household companions to barns, only those cats without other options. You can change the life of a cat in need You can help a cat who has nowhere else to go. If you have a working barn or other structure, there are cats who need you! Having a barn cat will help keep down the rodent population. The cats will be helping you, while you provide them a safe place to live. And, because these cats are already spayed or neutered, you won't have to worry about litters of kittens appearing! Story
Bowie is a shy but sweet kitty who came to the shelter with two other feline friends. While he’s a bit reserved in the bustling shelter environment, he’s shown his gentle side by leaning into head pets from people who approach him softly. Bowie would be a wonderful companion for a household with other cats with a slow introduction. If you’re looking for a quiet and kind-hearted kitty to join your family, Bowie might just be your perfect match! Come meet him today and see if he’s the one to steal your heart.
