Story
Rudy is a wonderful companion. I inherited him, as he was my feinces dog when I met.her several years ago. My fience passed away after a long illness, and he and I kept each other together through the tough times. He was a rescue dog when she got him, but his temperament is very gentle. He has never bitten, and loves children. He is a bit overweight now because I have not been able to get him out to exercise enough, but overall healthy.

Story
Experienced Pet Owner Needed- Adults Only – No Children – Puppy Mill Dog Sebastian is a very fearful, yet curious 14 pound -2 year old poodle that is a challenge to say the least. Believed to be a puppy mill dog, Sebastian missed out on any socialization or human contact during the critical development period of early life and is therefore TERRIFIED of human touch. It is unknown as to his exact history but it is certainly clear that he is anxiety ridden when it comes to new places and people. Upon coming to his foster home this poor guy was a shaking, matted mess that had to be taken directly to the vet where he had to be sedated and then put under anesthetic in order to examine him and to shave him down as he was no doubt never groomed. Once back at this foster home, this little guy stayed in a gated area refusing to come out of the corner for 3 weeks. After gaining a bit of confidence from the other household dogs he began to venture slowly out into the rest of the house but always panicking and running under or behind anything available whenever his foster mom made a move. After 5 weeks he gained confidence with the other dogs and took his place among the pack being the scared and submissive one of the group. Always observant and watchful, he learned from the other dogs how to be a dog and relies on the others to show him what to do and how to react. It took 7 weeks before this little guy was curious enough to follow the other dogs and walked past his foster mom as she held the door open to go outside. Terrified at first, it was clear he had never been allowed such freedom. Being outside for the first time, he darted for the door and back inside several times before he was sure he was safe. He will now go in and out of the house comfortably but is not yet totally housebroken as he doesn’t demonstrate or vocalize the need to go out but will follow the other dogs whenever they go out. For this reason he would do best with someone that is patient and schedule orientated that would be at home the majority of the time so help with his training. He does require a fenced yard as he could be a door darter and since he won’t let you handle him a leashed walk is out of the question. Since gaining a bit of confidence, Sebastian has developed into a playful pup with the other dogs and would do best with at least one playful companion dog. He loves to stalk, run at and jump on the other dogs and will initiate play by nipping at their faces or hind legs. He is submissive with the other dogs and will roll belly up letting them know that they are in charge. Since he has just gotten the hang of playing, he still will not interact with humans or other toys but will resort to chewing up his bed if he is left to long play and entertain himself. He is certainly making up for the puppy he was never allowed to be. Sebastian sleeps uneasy, almost as if he has one eye open and jumps out of bed if he even senses anyone walking too near him. He will now come to his foster mom (after 5 months) and take treats out of her hand as long as she doesn’t make any attempt to pet or move towards him. He will greet you at the door, along with the other dogs when you come home - just don’t touch him! He has found his bark and will bark at the door to come in (never out) and sneaks up to sniff you as long you don’t move. If accidentally touched or brushed by a hand of food he just about jumps out of his skin and retreats to a safe distance that will allow for a fast getaway should he feel threatened. Sebastian needs a fairly quite, ADULT ONLY household as children move too quickly, scare him and he will bite if he feels threatened or cornered. He would do best with an in house training one-on-one program and medications to overcome his anxiety and maybe, he just may be one of those dogs that will never warm up to human touch allowing himself to cuddle or be loved. One thing is for certain and that is he needs a very patient and practiced owner that will love him AS IS and work with him to become his true potential of what he can be. If you are that experienced, adult pet owner that has the time, patience and the funds to invest in behavioral training, medications and the commitment to helping him and would like to meet Sebastian, contact his foster mom Cindy at 708-655-9620. He is up to date on his shots, neutered, on heartworm preventive, and is flea and tick protected. His adoption fee is $100. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - free 30 days of pet insurance (requires activation) - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive (when necessary) - deworming

Story
Hi I'm Stella. I'm a 7 yr old female Beagle. I am a very petite girl at only 12 lbs. I came to Rover Rescue from an Indiana shelter. I was dropped off with my sister by a breeder. I was definitely bred throughout my life. I lived my life outside and was not treated very well which does explain some of my fears. I will need a lot of patience to allow me to gain some confidence. I will also need someone who is home with me as I do have separation anxiety. Someone who works from home or is retired would be ideal. We are working on my potty training but since spending 7 yrs outside I am moving slowly with training and will need consistency with keeping up on it. I do have accidents in the house and in my crate at times. When I came to Rover Rescue, my poor teeth were in bad shape and I had a bad ear infection. I was spayed, my teeth were cleaned, and I got my ears cleaned with some medicine. I am feeling wonderful! The first few days I was so quiet in my foster home. I mostly hid in the corner of the couch. After some time being here, I am continuing to stay fairly quiet but have come out more for attention. I also discovered my voice. My foster mom has now started to hear I actually do have a bark in me. I have let out some beagle barks in the backyard, but mostly in hopes to catch my fur friends as we play chase in the backyard. My foster mom has also heard me bark at night for which seems like no reason. I live with other fur babies which I love their companionship. My foster mom thinks they have helped me come out of my shell. I am a submissive girl, but will give a jump and bark at the dogs if I feel they are in my space. I have let out an occasion growl. I recently had a puppy friend visit for the week who I did pretty well with. We chased each other around the house and wrestled on the couch. I do love being pet but I tend to cower at first. I do really love curling up on the couch by my foster mom and I sleep so soundly. I am a very sweet girl. I would do best in a quieter home where someone is home a lot. I do get a bit frightened with a lot going on. I also would do best with a dog companion to keep me company when my humans leave the house. A submissive fur friend would be best. I do have some anxiety and my foster mom is seeing some behaviors due to it. Most of my behaviors are like what you'd expect of a puppy. Potty training, chewing and I do like to grab random things and put things in my bed. I will require a patient and loving person who understands things may take time with me. If you would like to come visit me please call (no text messages) my foster mom Dani at 630-254-8647. My adoption fee is $225. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - free 30 days of pet insurance (requires activation) - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive (when necessary) - deworming

Story
Zane, a Dachshund/ Chihuahua mix, is 1 1/2 years old. From his background, he is adjusting little by little. He is house trained and crate trained. Besides a crate, he feels safe on a couch. He jumps off the couch when it's mealtime, time to go outside, and has started jumping off to go where you are sitting. (Wanting you to pick him up and be put on your lap!) He only weighs 12 pounds. Lacking socialization, when meeting people or other dogs, it does take time. Soon he's ready to be petted and likes being picked up. With other dogs, he likes running around with them. He is very fast. Going on walks, are a great way for him to explore and to get used to noises. He still gets startled when there is a loud sound. He needs a quiet home and people that will let him adjust to a new way of life. He has been neutered, is up to date on shots, and has a microchip for his forever home. If you would like to meet him, call Judy 630 879-2827. No texting. The adoption fee is $225. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - free 30 days of pet insurance (requires activation) - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive (when necessary) - deworming

Story
Lena is a 2 year old, 114 pound Great Dane mix. She would do best in a quiet home with no children where she is the only pet. Because of her strong prey drive, she would not do well with cats. She is very strong, so needs a family who can handle this. Another thing is that she will not do stairs. She is house and crate trained. She is a very sweet and loving dog. She is a leaner like most Great Danes. She is most happy to nap the day away by your side or somewhere nearby. She is more of a shy dog, but does well with small groups. She has been working on her commands and manners. She knows how to sit and stay, but is also easily distracted. Lena does not destroy her belongings or that of her family outside of anything made of foam (Nerf darts, balls, etc). She still has every toy we have given her. She absolutely loves blankets and will even try to steal the couch cover we have since it's just a giant blanket in her eyes. She has random short bursts of energy before she tires herself out to take another nap. She also loves being outside and car rides. She came to us a little over a year ago from a shelter and we have enjoyed her company while we watched her adjust to a real home. We could tell right away that she had been abused, but have seen a lot of improvement in the past year. With love and patience she will continue to improve. This dog is altered and up to date on shots. If you would like to meet this dog please call Teri at 630-897-7454. The adoption fee is $200.

Story
Duncan is a 2-4 year old beagle mix. He weighs 42 pounds. He is intelligent, inquisitive, gentle, calm and laid back. He is very quiet and seldom barks. He loves attention, being petted and full body rubs, but he is not a cuddler or lap dog. He's not much of a player; he just loves to do his own thing. He loves his walks, 2-3 hours or more daily. There is no aggression or guarding in this dog. He has very little interest in toys or any type of play activities. He is a wonderful, loving, appreciative, but not overly affectionate dog. He does have a high prey drive, so should not be in a home with cats. If you would like to meet Duncan, please call Teri at 630-897-7454. The adoption fee is $225. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - free 30 days of pet insurance (requires activation) - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive (when necessary) - deworming
