Story
My name used to be Sweetie but when I first got here I was sort of goofy. When I went for a walk, I did a drop-and-roll every few steps so you could give me a belly rub. My foster family called me L.C. (Low Crawl)  Helen and the name has stuck. I love nature watching. Squirrels are really cool! I've seen some deer out where I am living right now and they're very exciting.  Mostly, though, I just want people to love me and pet me and tell me how sweet I am. I do get nervous around small children, though, so I prefer a family with older children. I am nervous around new dogs. After some controlled introductions, though, I can become good buddies. My best bud is my neighbor's very large chocolate lab.  PLEASE NOTE: We ONLY adopt to residents of the Washington metropolitan area, which includes Washington, D.C. and parts of Northern Virginia and Maryland. Story
Britney Ears is a lovely, sweet girl. She's friendly with people and other dogs and is very treat-motivated. She's getting some basic training now to get her ready for adoption. Britney would do very well with another dog for companionship. Britney tested positive for heartworm and has completed her treatment. Now it's just a matter of waiting until she can be retested.  In addition to heartworm, Britney has a congenital heart defect which can be corrected later surgically. In the meanwhile, she's on a medication to help reduce the stress on her heart. PLEASE NOTE: We ONLY adopt to residents of the Washington metropolitan area, which includes Washington, D.C. and parts of Northern Virginia and Maryland. Please see our adoption guidelines at  https://spcanova.org/about-us/adoption-policies/.

Story
Nice people took me from a shelter to give me a second chance and they even nursed me back to health, so I thought I had it made and would have my forever home.  But their dog thought differently and it wasn't to be.  So now  I'm appealing to you and hoping you big-dog lovers out there will come to meet me.  I need an experienced dog person. I am very lovable once I get to know you, but I am wary of strangers. I'm not crazy about thunderstorms and I really hate woodpeckers.  I have a Guardian Angel!  Thank you, Cassie Rennie!   PLEASE NOTE: We ONLY adopt to residents of the Washington metropolitan area, which includes Washington, D.C. and parts of Northern Virginia and Maryland. Please see our adoption guidelines at  https://spcanova.org/about-us/adoption-policies/.

Story
I'm a big guy, but I was living in a crate 24/7 until a kind SPCA volunteer came to my rescue.  Freedom is wonderful!  So is having a "forever home", and I hope to have one someday soon.  I am what some call "a lot of dog" so I need an experienced dog owner and more space than an apartment provides. I need to be introduced to new people. I need a house with 6 foot secure fenced yard. If you are interested in meeting me, you have to submit a dog inquiry form. I don't come to every adoption, so the SPCA needs to know if you want to meet me. PLEASE NOTE: We ONLY adopt to residents of the Washington metropolitan area, which includes Washington, D.C. and parts of Northern Virginia and Maryland. Please see our adoption guidelines at  https://spcanova.org/about-us/adoption-policies/.

Harlee just begs for love. She's happy to give kisses and be held all day.  Harlee can be a little timid around new dogs but she recovers quickly and then they are play buddies. Harlee was surrendered by her owners to a shelter in rural southwestern Virginia.  Their loss! PLEASE NOTE: We ONLY adopt to residents of the Washington metropolitan area, which includes Washington, D.C. and parts of Northern Virginia and Maryland.
