Story
Ben is a new arrival from an upstate animal shelter that felt he would do best in our environment and have a stronger chance to be adopted promptly. While our environment isn't exactly low-stress, we spend time reassuring our guys so they feel more at home than they probably would in any animal shelter situation. Ben has been such an easy keeper! He's young - about 4 years old - and he's a large boy, which means he'll need a little work on leash to pull less strongly. Otherwise, he's friendly and lives easily with a female Dobie much smaller than he is. Though Ben hasn't been kenneled with any male Dobies, he seems more curious than aggressive when they approach him.

Story
Sheba is a sweet, all natural female who came to us from an animal shelter. She's energetic, affectionate and an all-around great dog. She is pretty dog social, though we do believe she would be a better fit for larger dogs. She does have a strange leg that is believed to be a birth defect and not an injury. Despite how odd it looks, she does use it well and she is still quite athletic. Sheba is a young adult and ready for a fun, loving and wonderful home.

Story
Riley is an 11-year-old "special needs" Border Collie. His owner passed away, and we have a fondness for Border Collies, so we took him in. Unfortunately, the behavior typical of his breed isn't understood by the Doberman breed, so his herding and nipping at heels of the Dobermans isn't going well with them. Riley did have a wonderful owner for several months, but her living situation in too small a territory for him was causing anxiety and barking behavior. He's housebroken and quite beautiful. He just needs a larger territory, one where he can dispel energy without annoying other dogs. His "special need" is requiring eye drops in his eyes twice a day to keep his eyes healthy, since one of his eyes suffered an injury at some point. Riley is a special dog who will always stick very close by his loved one(s) and will give his complete loyalty to his next deserving owner.

Story
Willie became a favorite of ours within a couple of days after he arrived. He presents himself more as a big mellow teddy bear than a Doberman, and he's proven to be good with other dogs, though they at first objected to him (perhaps because he is older and was still intact). His age is estimated at 8 years, and he has more the body style of solidly-built European Dobies though he's not heavy. We haven't observed Willie's behavior toward kids as yet, but his mellow demeanor might be more appealing to adults in any event. It's unlikely that Willie is housebroken, partly because he doesn't seem to ask to come indoors. Maybe that invitation had never been extended to him.

Good with dogs, Needs special attention, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Cinnabon is a sweet, fawn girl who needs a very special home. When at the vet for her spay surgery, it was discovered that Cinnabon had a hole in the roof of her mouth, often known as a cleft palate. The vet closed the hole but complications then made the next couple of weeks very scary. Even though Cinnabon doesn't have a clotting disorder (her spay surgery went fine) the surgery led to bleeding complications and she developed a condition called DIC where she was simultaneously clotting and hemorrhaging. A plasma transfusion, two blood transfusions and an east medication called yunnan baiyao saved her life. Now, a couple months later and she’s full weight, healthy, active and doing amazing. The hole did open back up during the complications and there is no way we are going to risk her life to try and close it again. Cinnabon is available for adoption but she is a special needs adoption and needs the right person, couple or family that can provide for her and understand her condition. She isn't expensive to care for on a daily basis but she is susceptible to aspiration and pneumonia so future medical care needs to be anticipated. The positive side is that Cinnabon is incredibly sweet, playful with other dogs, loves affection and loves her people. She's actually an incredible dog who needs someone to give her the love and home she deserves.

Story
Cannon is a 3-year-old Dobie (as of 2020) who was turned in to an animal shelter by his owner. He is a "hard-mouthed" dog and actually did break skin minorly when interacting with a kennel staff member, so he was then quarantined for the bite and made "rescue-only." During Cannon's stay with us, it appears that he merely engages in rough play, and an experienced adopter should be able to work through this behavior with him, either through professional training or electronic aids or both. Cannon has been kenneled alone since he wasn't able to live with another dog long-term during his stay with us. This dog will also require at least moderate daily exercise to release some of his energy. We are also seeking an adult owner for him.
