It woud be great to see Baby Girl be adopted with her bestie Pepper but we know as long as she has a loving home she will be happy. She is such a lovebug and deserves to have a great life!

Story
Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Stella. We believe she is a wonderful mix of pointer/hound. Stella is 2 years old and has a short hair coat. She weighs 42lb. She was surrendered to the high kill shelter by her owners as she was too active for them. Stella is a super sweet dog. She has zero aggression tendencies. She is very quiet, which she gets from her Pointer mix traits. She is only vocal sometimes when playing with the other dogs. She loves all dogs, regardless of size, sex or age. She is not a bully at all. The shelter tested her with cats and she does not like them. She is a high energy dog and very athletic. She would excel in flyball or agility. Stella is very affectionate and will kiss everyone for as long as you let her. She is timid at first but within 24 hours she gained the trust in her foster family. Stella is incredibly gentle, slightly hand shy. She loves cuddles. She has the appetite of a hound so her food is measured out three times daily. This gal came into our care housebroken. She loves to play outside, though she will need a coat in the cooler weather because of her short coat. Stella is very good in the vehicle. She is apprehensive on a leash so we don't believe she had much exposure to it. We recommend a body harness and a lead for any of our dogs for full control. She is crate trained but only uses it in when the family is out. Stella sleeps with a family member at night time. The ideal family is one where she is given the time and patience to trust and train with her daily. She won't be able to be walked by a child as being a hound she will have a prey drive. Children will be ideal but perhaps older ones would be best. Younger children can be loud at times when excited, which might frighten her. Priority will be given to those applicants with another socialized resident canine. Stella is spayed, 4DX tested negative, fully vaccinated, on heartworm and flea prevention. She is also microchipped. A fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian history of compliance are mandatory to apply for Stella. If you wish to apply for our Stella, please visit barksandmeows.ca for an online application.

Story
Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Rayo (means lightning in Spanish). He is a Portuguese Medio Podengo. He was born on Nov 15/2017. He is a smooth coat with an undercoat. He weighs 35lbs. His owner surrendered him to rescue as they moved to a much smaller home with no yard and realized they couldn't give him the exercise he needed due to the amount of hours they worked. This breed is a sight hound. They are bred to hunt small game like rabbits and birds. They can jump very high and very well. They are known as lively, cheerful and loyal companions. Rayo has learned to play with other dogs now and really does enjoy it. He is very good with children. He is a very good watchdog since he is very alert and suspicious of strangers. They are known to bark like mad when someone comes into the property but won't confront the stranger or act agressively. They tend to bark at anything out of the ordinary so are prone to excess barking. In Rayo's case, he barks everytime he sees a new person, or someone walking by etc. Rayo, true to his breed, is very reserved with strangers. It doesn't take him long to warm up to someone new and he loves to give hugs and kisses. He is food motivated, trains easily and is highly intelligent. He sleeps in a doggie bed at night time and is never crated. He has a prey drive so no cats or guinea pigs etc in the home. His former owner used to take him hunting for rabbits and squirrels and he was very good at coming to him when whistled for. Rayo is fully housebroken. The ideal home for Rayo is one where one can take him hunting of small game. This is what he was bred to do and he really enjoys it. He is doesn't like being alone for too long. He loves the car and going for hikes on trails would suit him, though he will need to be on a leash. If one doesn't hunt, tracking would work for him as well. Rayo is neutered, up to date with vaccines, 4dx tested negative and on Heartworm/flea/tick prevention. A fully fenced yard, containing a minimum of 6 foot high wooden fencing, and a Veterinarian history of compliance are mandatory in order to apply for our Rayo. If you wish to apply for Rayo, please visit barksandmeows.ca for an application.

Story
Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Kipper. He is an 18-month-old Cattle Dog/Shepherd mix. He weighs about 40lbs. He has a medium-length coat. He was found as a stray and brought to a shelter. KIpper has a wonderful disposition. He is calm and focused on whatever task he is performing. He is very smart and mid energy. He loves playing with other dogs and is very social with them in the foster home. This guy is very food motivated making training so much easier. He is housebroken and crate trained. This fellow enjoys lots of cuddles. He likes attention from one person at a time, including children, though he is still mouthy. He has the softest fur which is a Cattledog trait. He does well in the vehicle and on a leash which was a nice surprise. He has a large dog appetite so his food is measured out twice daily so he doesn't overeat. He is food motivated which has helped him learn to not mind being crated for feeding time or if the foster family is out. We do not believe he likes cats. The ideal home for Kipper is one where he gets to spend a lot of time with the family and their pets. A resident canine would be best for Kipper. He should be going out for a couple of good walks or hikes every day. He will be a very good off-leash walking partner on trails once he has bonded with the family. He is a medium-size dog so he can be lifted if need be. We would love to see him take obedience classes just so he can use his trait of focusing on tasks at hand regularly. He will be the star of the class, we are sure of that. Kipper is neutered, up to date with vaccines, heartworm tested negative and on flea/tick prevention. He is also microchipped. A fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian history of compliance as well as another socialized and playful resident canine are mandatory to apply for Kip. A farm or property with acreage without fencing would be considered due to his breed mix and the dynamics of the applicant's home. Visit barksandmeows.ca for an onlne application.

Story
Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Bear 2. He is a Dutch Shepherd mix who is 2 years old. Bear weighs 58.5lbs. He was adopted out by a local shelter to a security company but was returned for being too nice. Bear's original owner surrendered him to the shelter as he had seperation anxiety. Bear had to have his toe amputated when he caught it on the crate at the security company. Shortly thereafter, he entered our Rescue where he had to have multiple bandage changes and staples removal through our Veterinarian. As advised by the shelter he requires sedation for any kind of work up involving a vet. This will be the standard protocol required going forward, anytime a Vet needs to see him. His foot has now healed and he doesn't have any issues without the toe. Bear is incredibly smart and agile. He does very well with other dogs and enjoys playing with them. He has a very soft brindle coat. Like any Shepherd, Bear needs a job to do. He would do well in agility or scent training. He is very focused when being talked to one on one making training easy. He walks quite well on a leash and rides very well in the car. He eats 1 1/2 cups of dry food twice daily. He is very affectionate and sleeps on his foster parents bed. He does well with children but would recommend over 7 so he doesn't bowl them over. Bear listens well and is very sensitive. He wants to please his family. He does not require crating and recommend not doing so since he caught his toe on one before. He can jump quite high and would most likely do anything to escape the crate. Tbe ideal home for Bear is one where the family is home enough and willing to take him to classes such as obedience, scent training, agility etc. A second well socialized dog would be a bonus. He does not like cats! A fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian history of compliance is mandatory in order to apply for Bear. A farm property will be considered depending on the Dynamics of the home. Bear is neutered, 4dx tested negative, up to date with vaccines and on heartworm prevention. To apply for Bear 2, visit barksandmeows.ca for an online application.

Story
Barks and Meows introduce Gunner.  This boy's breed mix is a mystery but our educated guess is a black Norweigian Elkhound and Shepherd mix.  He is 2 years old and weighs 52lbs.  His coat is medium length and a mixture of black and silver.  Gosh, we love this boy.  He is great with every dog he meets.  He adores children and people and is gentle and loving.  He can be mouthy when he is bored.  He has the talkative nature of a Shepherd.  He talks when he wants something and talks to the other dogs when playing.  He doesn't like cats.  Gunner is not a fan of the crate but is currently crated at night and during feeding time.  He is extremely food motivated.  He will sit up and beg with paws crossed when he wants something.  We question his age.  He acts more like a 1-year-old than a 2-year-old.  He is still in the chewing stage so he should get used to being created when the family is out.  This sweetie loves all sorts of toys and sticks.  He enjoys playing outside but not if it's too hot.  Gunner loves to cuddle up on the couch with his family watching TV.  He is fully housebroken.  He needs work walking on a leash and body harness.  He will be very food off-leash on hiking trails and cottages once he bonds with his family.  Gunner rides well in a vehicle.  The ideal home for Gunner is a farm property where he can be a working dog.  He has the herding instinct so he should have cattle or other livestock to herd.  Gunner is neutered, fully fascinated, 4DX tested negative and dewormed.  A working farm and a Veterinarian history of compliance are mandatory to apply for Gunner. If you wish to apply for Gunner, please visit barksandmeows.ca for an online application.
