Story
I purchased Loki when he was around 2 months old. It was during the summer. At first my school schedule was I’d only be gone a couple hours and come home, then with a new term came new hours. He’s now going on 8 months old (he was born May 12th 2019 so Mother’s Day) and with 4 full time students included in extra curricular activities and work and such, there’s no time built into our schedule for him which isn’t fair for him. His mom is a purebred border collie and dad is a hound mixture of bluetick and something else (hound). He’s around 40 pounds and a good boy! He is potty trained and knows sit. Working on other commands slowly.

Story
On a late Sunday afternoon, a fellow animal loving family pulled up to HQ with a box full of squishy puppies. They had found the puppies nursing on their dead mother and they didn't know what else to do. These folks donated what they could and we took it from there. After stocking up on puppy formula, we set our alarm clocks for the frequent feedings and zombied our way through the first few weeks. Just like real babies, we had some "picky" ones in the bunch - this one didn't like this bottle, that one preferred this nipple, this one had issues drinking from the bottle, those two eat a bottle a piece, etc. We had just gotten through the infant phase with our own daughter and were back to enjoying our evenings and then we were back in the trenches! Times 8 this time! From what we can tell, these pups appear to be pit-mastiff mixes, but we like to focus more on personalities than breeds here at The CWP. "Sammy" and his siblings have had their struggles when it comes to meeting new people. Given their rough start to life, this is understandable. We have adopted out 6 of the 8 puppies and each one of them took a little bit longer to open up to their new surroundings. When you interact with Samurai here at the rescue, he is everything you expect in a young pup - loving, playful, and goofy. Out in public, he can be a little timid and scared. Sammy has been on many "vacations" with our trainer and after about the third trip, he was more than OK with being away from headquarters. What we are trying to say is - Samurai's adopter will need to very patient and very dedicated to his success. He is a really great pup who deserves a chance at a forever home. As long as his forever family is committed to giving him some time to acclimate, we have no doubt that he will become a part of the family. Please review our adoption page at https://www.thechickwithpits.org/adoptionsfor the full details about the adoption process. Feel free to contact us with any questions! Please keep in mind that we will NOT schedule any meet-and-greets without a completed application first.

Story
If you're looking for a dapper gentleman to join your family, then look no further. Huck is an amazing dog who gets along with everything! He spends his days in open play doggie daycare, going on walks and obviously lounging around like the cutest couch potato. His couch potato game is strong. Huck has some kennel anxieties that are currently being worked on, but we believe this is something that can be fixed with the right home. Huck is fully vetted and up to date on everything.

Story
Hi, My name is Maria. I got Daisy about a year ago. She was just over 1 year old. I'm assuming she came from a divorced home. My friend originally got her and her kids were mean to her so she was very nervous about being there with them. They pulled on her ears and mouth and swatted her with a fly swatter. My friend did her best to punish the kids but there is only so much you can do. The kids are 1 & 3 years old and Daisy just didn't work out at their house. I had lost my husband 1 month before I got her. I offered to bring her home with me and find her a new home because the situation was not good at my friends house. This dog is extremely smart and LOVES to hunt. She belongs with a hunter and an active person who has time and LOVES to hunt too. We are close but I cant meet the demands that she needs. So im looking for a hunter to adopt her and give her a wonderful forever home and someone who will take her hunting and I do believe she is trained to bear hunt too!

Story
Lucas came to us with mom and siblings. When he was about 8 weeks old, we noticed some funny behavior where he was walking into walls and acting very lethargic. Without surgery, Lucas would not have lived past his second birthday. With surgery, he would have a normal life with the exception of a daily dose of omeprazole (over-the-counter heartburn treatment). In January of 2022, the surgery was performed at Texas A&M University and was a complete success. He has received a clean bill of health at every check-up since and, in fact, the veterinarians say he could benefit from losing a few pounds! Lucas is now 3 years old and is the happiest boy he can be. He attends regular training sessions and is very comfortable in public settings. He walks on the leash without pulling, sits on command, and has no problems meeting other dogs or strangers. Lucas absolutely loves playing with other dogs and knows to respect their boundaries. From what we have seen, he has no issues with cats, but (as anyone will tell you) that depends more on the cat than the dog! Lucas is neutered, microchipped, and (as mentioned) has no other medical issues except for his daily medicine. Lucas eats about 2.5 cups of food per day. This may need to be adjusted up or down now that he is considered an adult dog. Lucas definitely had an interesting start to his life and now he deserves a chance for a forever home! Please review our adoption page at https://www.thechickwithpits.org/adoptions for the full details about the adoption process.
