Story
Trooper is the perfect example of a teenage dog. He is goofy, friendly, bouncy and just wants to make his person happy. He also wants to chew on things ;) Trooper has been doing great on leash, and goes on three or four long walks a day. I use a training lead (20’) when walking trooper so that we can work on his leash manners and recall. Trooper likes to jump up on people, but this is easily fixed by turning your body away from him, and ignoring his jumping. I also, when I can tell he is about to jump on me, have him sit and immediately praise him for sitting. This can be practiced by letting him run out the full length of the lead, then calling him back, when you see that he is close to you ask him to sit, and give praise. Trooper has a ton of energy and will need lots of exercise to keep him and his adopter happy. He is not the dog for someone with a sedentary life style. Trooper likes kids, but would be best with older kids who understand how to curb his jumping behaviors, as a child who is afraid of him, will only encourage those behaviors by running and screaming. Trooper needs a home with no other pets as he is protective of his resources (food, toys). Trooper needs to be kenneled when you are not home, or when you are sleeping. He is a teenager, and he will chew on things. He does not LOVE being in his crate, but he can be convinced to go in if you give him treats. Crate time really would be the only appropriate time for a bone or chew to be given. Trooper is doing great on house breaking; he needs to be on a schedule. He was previously in a foster home with a doggy door, so he is currently un-learning that he can go to the bathroom whenever he wants, he must wait for someone to take him out. Trooper is an awesome dog who will be an amazing family pet with the correct leadership and training. He is ridiculously friendly and energetic, and just needs to have productive ways to work out his energy. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, tested for heartworm, dewormed and on flea & heartworm preventative. He is also microchipped. We adopt to indoor homes only. Estimated DOB 5/2015 Adoption fee is $200 which includes all of the above vetting. If you would like to adopt Trooper or have questions about him please call Katie at 816-509-6006.
