Story
Approx DOB:  6/24/2008       Approx Weight:  50 lbs. Adoption Fee: $100 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness.  Rocket was adopted from Furry Kids as a puppy and returned because he kept escaping his family's yard by jumping their fence.  We have also learned that Rocket is not good with cats.   When he was returned, his nails were extremely long. Shortly after he was returned, we also discovered that he was heartworm positive.  He has been treated for the heartworms and if kept on prevention should have no ill effects from them. The condition Rocket was returned in was poor and since then we have gotten his nails and body healthy:) Rocket is perfect!  He gets along with all his foster brothers and sisters!  He runs the dogs and then keeps to himself. He loves to snuggle with you on the couch.  He sleeps on his dog bed all night.  He might get up to look at you as if he's making sure you are still there!  He likes to run and sniff around outside.  And then he naps. If you happen to be someone who looks past the years you’ll see he is still very much puppy. The years won’t slow this boy down! Rockets ideal home would be a large fenced yard. He will sniff and play all day if you let him. He is also very calm and hardly ever barks. Since he is older children 13 and up is advised. He is kenneled trained and loves loves to cuddle. You may notice he has some long hairs and patchy looking fur; It definitely adds to his goofy demeanor. His face is the softest of any dog I’ve ever petted so definitely give him a good face rub while you’re visiting with him.  Rocket isn’t much of a playful dog he prefers to walk along side them. If you have a relaxed dog who could use a buddy give Rocket a chance. He deserves it:) Ask is about being a foster! We need wonderful people to be foster homes until they find their forever homes. Rocket has been neutered, treated for heartworms, is current on vaccinations and is microchipped. If you are interested in adopting Rocket, please fill out the adoption application located at www.furrykidsreufge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back with you as soon as possible.  Thanks for your interest in Rocket. Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient.  You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from Noon to 4:00 p.m.  Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.  Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids' Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love.......win-win for all!!  Just visit our website http://www.furrykidsrefuge.org/category/fostering/  for more information. Thanks for your support!

Story
Approx. DOB: 3/15/15                                   Approx. Weight: 45 lbs. Adoption Fee: $150 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness Annabelle, aka Belle, Oh wow we love this dog.  She wants to be loved so badly, just needs your reassurance that you are trustworthy, a little time and patience and it’s well worth the effort.  I can just picture her getting the zoomies, running around happily, snuggling in to a dog bed, spooning on the couch with a foster or adopter parent!  She has a harness and she absolutely loves a long stroll.    She needs a foster home, one that will let her know she’s secure and loved and let her come out of her shell and become the dog we know she is. Annabelle, otherwise known as Belle, came to Furry Kids many years ago and has been waiting for her perfect human family for far too long!  She spent the first year of her life on the run with her brother and they were both scared when Furry Kids was able to catch them and bring them to safety.  Over the years, they came a long way learning to trust humans.  Her brother was adopted last year.  Her caretakers have worked hard letting her know she can trust us humans.  She loves to go for a long walk.  She is a perfect leash walker!  She needs a little time to get to know you, but once she trusts you, she's playful and silly!  She likes other dogs, but would be fine being an only dog too.  One of her favorite things to do is bask in the sun and when she does, you can see just how beautiful and soulful her eyes are.  Belle likes to sniff, run, and play!  She loves treats! Please consider giving this pretty girl a chance to become your new best friend.  She's definitely worth the effort and will surely bond to you and be your loyal companion! Belle has been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative and microchipped.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the adoption application located at www.furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible.

Story
Jamming JiffyApprox DOB: 6/2010                 Approx. Wht: 11 pds. $175 adoption fee Jiffy was rescued from a kill shelter after being picked up as a stray. He does really well with smaller dogs. At the rescue Jiffy hangs out with five to six small dogs everyday and they love each other:) Jiffy would be totally happy getting all the attention as well lol.  Jiffy has been so much fun to work with. In the rescue business you learn that certain breeds have certain quirks:)  if you are a lover of chihuahuas then you’ll love my pal Jiffy. Like most chihuahuas they desire their one or two main humans. He’s gonna love you forever. Jiffy needs an understanding couple who won’t judge him but understand his quirks. Life’s been rough to my little buddy and it takes him time to warm up. Let me tell you my first week working at the rescue Jiffy didn’t trust me. Those little ankle bitters lol. In my experience chihuahuas  are loving, protective, and super silly. That’s what you’d be getting with Jiffy.  Since life was rough to Jiffy a lot of people stress him out. He needs to be crated when friends and family are over. Until he gets to know them. Ideally a mature couple with no kids would rock for this little fellow. People who understand the breed and are compassionate enough to give him some time to warm up. In his prior family he bit a couple of family members who came into his favorite family members space....he thought he was protecting them. He has been seen by a Animal Behaviorist and needs structure and not being pushed to do things that stress him out to that point.     I have been neutered, heart worm tested negative, vaccinated, micro chipped, and wormed. Please fill out a application for me at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, just click on the 'Adopt A Dog' icon. A dedicated volunteer will be touch soon. Thank you for your interest in me. Story
Approx. DOB: 7/15/13        Approx. Wht: 65 lbs. Adoption fee is $150 and includes a 2 week trial to help ensure everyone's happiness. ADOPTION FEE FULLY SPONSORED     ~~~~~~~~~~~~NO CATS !!!!!~~~~~~~~~~~~ Carmen and her 11 puppies were taken in from a local shelter when her puppies were only 2-3 weeks old. She proved to be the most devoted, caring mommy we have ever had the pleasure of taking in. Carmen is currently in a foster home, and had gotten along great. If you are looking for a super sweet girl, who loves to be with her people, she could be the dog for you.  She is one of the happiest, most loving dogs you have ever seen, always wagging her tail and smiling.  She definitely loves being with her people, but also gets along well with her foster siblings.  When she first came into her foster home, she kept trying to play with her foster sister (who is 11 1/2 and not very interested in playing), so another younger foster dog was brought in, and she has taken to him incredibly well.  They have enjoyed playing and romping in the yard together.  She could benefit from being in a home with another dog that likes to play, although, she has been found to be slightly dog selective, preferring non aggressive dogs, so a home visit with a family who has another dog would be suggested to ensure they will get along.     Carmen didn't know basic commands, but has learned to stay, and sit, and goes to lay on her bed when she is told to do so.  She is happiest having a bed on the floor, and has not gotten up on the furniture at all, even though the animals are allowed on the furniture in her foster home.  During the day, she is out, and sleeps on the floor on her bed in her foster mom's bedroom at night and there have been no issues with either her staying out during the day or at night.  She seems to not have much sense for telling when she needs to go outside, except for going to the door and waiting, but she is completely house trained, and this has not been a problem in her foster home.    She is pretty good on a leash, and gets really excited about walks, although she does pull a bit, but for her size, it's really not bad.  Her family will need to continue to work with her on that aspect, but I think she will learn with time Carmen has been spayed, heart worm tested negative, vaccinated, wormed, micro chipped and if you would like to meet/adopt/foster this sweet girl please fill out a application at furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch.
