Story
Cooper came to CHS via another shelter. He is about 4 years old and is really a sweet kid and does well with other dogs...depending on the other dog. Cooper will not do well in a home with cats as he likes to chase them a lot. Cooper will need to have an experienced dog owner and someone who is going to be willing to give him a job and keep him on his toes at all times. We are not willing to put Cooper in a home with kids that are under the age of 16. He enjoys going on walks and running in his fenced in area playing with his people. CHS is committed to finding the right matches for not only our pets but also our adopters. We have a unique approach to our adoption matching process. Our kennels are not open for the public to walk through, as this helps us keep our dogs as happy and comfortable as possible. Due to our commitment to being such strong allies for our pets, we ask that you please either call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org before just showing up to meet our pets. We would like to take the time to get to know our adopters so that we can make only the best matches between you and your future new family member. For more information call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumbia.org

Story
Tucker is a little over 2 years old and sadly hasn't had much exposure to life outside of a shelter. He was a transfer in from another facility. When he first arrived at CHS he wasn't much for being handled by humans. He was very scared and very shy, it has taken him several months to settle in and now he is doing great. He is a very tolerant dog and he does well in playgroup. We don't feel that he is going to do well with small kids, as he is very rough and tumble when he plays and he has no idea that he is about 75lbs. He thinks its fun to run into you while he is playing. Tucker is going to need a patient home with lots of understanding of positive reinforcement training in order to make him feel comfortable. An only dog situation for this kid would be preferred. If you feel that you might be able to provide Tucker with what he is looking for that would be great. Please don't hesitate to contact us. CHS is very committed to our adopters getting the best possible adoption experience that they can. Due to that we ask that prior to arrival at the shelter you please call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org to make appropriate arrangements. Most of our dog adoptions are done by appointment only, as we have very limited staff and we want to be able to give ample time to our adopters. They deserve that as well as our dogs deserve it.For more information call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumbia.org

Story
Boaz isn’t exactly a new addition to the CHS family. Having been adopted out for the first time in 2017 and recently returned to us, we are now looking for a new forever home for him. Boaz is kind of a complicated kid; he lacks trust in new people when he initially meets them. He is going to be a very loyal companion and an exceptionally good protector. We would not be willing to put him in a home with cats or with kids that are under 16 years of age. This guy is going to need a home where he could stretch his legs and get the daily exercise that he needs. He is very big and very goofy and sometimes has no idea that he is as large as he is. Being a Canaan Mixed breed we would ask that prior to meeting him you please do your research on the breed so that you can understand fully what you are getting into. These guys are known to be protectors of their people, and they will be very vocal, for that reason they are not great at living in the city, there tends to be to much going on and they become overly protective of their property. Boaz also is going to do best in an only dog home. He has a tendency to want to guard objects and stuff from other dogs. He loves a mean game of chase, but we are fairly confident that having another dog in his home would be against what he would actually like to have. He deserves a life of being the most important animal in the home. If you are meeting this kid we ask that you please email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org and we would be very happy to send you an adoption application. His adoption fee is $250.00 that includes his neuter, microchip, and all of his vaccinations through adoption. For more information call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumbia.org

Story
Summer is a recent addition to the CHS family. She came to the shelter via Animal Control when she was found tied to a fence behind a local hotel. It is believed that she was owned by a homeless person, but we don't really know. Not knowing what her history is hard for us as we don't really know any type of experiences she has had in her life. We have been able to kind of guess that she is about 1.5 years old, she has been spayed as we did that, and she is current on her vaccinations. She is a pretty good house guest here at the shelter, she keeps to her self and enjoys just hanging out in her kennel. She plays a mean game of fetch and on many days you can find her lying flat on her back in her kennel with her belly to the sky. She loves to show off her tummy. She has never really met a person that she does not LOVE and would like to find a family that will give her a secure place to stay, and will invite her in to be part of the family. Summer has a pretty good obedience foundation but would love to spend sometime in training classes so she can learn a little more. We feel that Summer is going to be the most successful in a home environment where she is an only dog, and that there are no cats at either. If you are interested in meeting Summer we ask that you please send an email to animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org We will happily send you an application, once we have that application on file,we will then be more than happy to schedule a time for you and your family to come out and meet with her. Due to our small size and our commitment to our placements, we will not do any meet and greets with out a prior appointment being made for that pet. It is very important to us that we are able to give adequate time to our adopters when they come to do a meet and greet. We understand we are asking you to make a commitment for life to one of our pets, and we want to be sure that you have our full undivided attention. Summer's adoption fee is $250.00For more information call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumbia.org

Story
Meet Rouge, this handsome devil is a brand new addition to the CHS family. This guy comes in right around 1-2 years old and weighs in right around 63lbs. If energy and exuberance is what you are after, then we suggest you stop looking today. This guy is very quick on his feet, fast to make friends both human and dog. We don't feel he is going to do well with cats, as his impulse is to chase and that typically doesn't work out well. This guy is not going to be for the faint of heart, he is very smart and is picking up on commands quickly however, he is going to be a work in progress. With a little structure, a whole lot of positive reinforcemet, and love in his life, there is no telling the things that this guy is going to be able to accomplish. Due to the fact that he came into the shelter as a stray, we don't know what his history is with children, however with his current energy level and excitment for life we would be very reluctant to place him with kids that are younger than 12 years old. If you are interested in meeting Rouge we ask that you please email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org. Please note that our adoptions are not done one first come first serve basis, each adoption is customized to the dog and the adopter. We do not allow walkins just to meet our dogs, all meet and greets need to be arranged prior to arrival at the kennel, this is due to our small staff and our tight time constraints. We appreciate your understanding. His adoption fee is going to be $250.00, that includes his neuter, current on vaccines, treated for fleas, treated for worms and microchipped. He will also come with a $100 enrichment package that will help him both at the shelter and as his new home. For more information call 503-397-4353 or email animalwelfare@columbiahumbia.org
