Story
ABOUT SNICKERS Snickers is a 1 year old terrier mix with quite the backstory. This little girl was saved from a hoarding case in West Virginia, at only a few months old. The local animal control took her and her littermates to safety, after living in unimaginable conditions. She stayed at their shelter, with her siblings, for 9 months and received no adoption interest. Typically, puppies are adopted quickly, but given the environment she was raised in, Snickers was fearful of people, often seen cowering or running away from strangers. The shelter in West Virginia no longer had space for her, so she came to Delaware! When she arrived at HAP, she displayed some submissive, nervous behaviors but began to open up with other dogs. After being cooped up in a hoarders house, to an overcrowded shelter, she was thrilled to have plenty of space here at HAP. Snickers has even participated in our Doggy Day Out program, where volunteers can give our dogs a break from shelter life. Here's what our volunteers had to say about her: "My first doggy day out was with Snickers! She is such a sweet lil pup! She is quite shy and timid in the beginning. We went for a long walk at the Riverfront and she was enjoying all the scents with her nose buried to the ground. She is very good on a leash, doesn't pull and can easily be redirected when needed. We passed runners, bicyclists and other dogs but she wasn't interested in anything except smelling all the grass and bushes. My partner took her for a lil jog and she seemed to really enjoy that! She was bouncing along happily next to him. She also takes treats so gently and gives so many kisses. Overall she's such a sweet girl that just needs a bit of love to get out of her shell." If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
We'll also keep you updated on Snickers's adoption status with email updates.

Story
This friend has just arrived because their owner could no longer keep them. While owners can provide some history on their pets, our medical and behavioral teams will still evaluate them. Dogs that have lived in homes previously typically have some training established, but we cannot guarantee that those behaviors will remain consistent in a new home environment. They are pending interactions with other animals at the shelter until they have been cleared by our vet. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and we will update their bio with more information as we learn. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. ABOUT MATEO This handsome lil guy is Mateo! He is about 6 years old and full of love! Mateo came to HAP when he was found wandering as a stray. We aren't sure of his background, but he was very underweight, covered in urine, and had some skin irritation. Mateo has since been plumped up with yummy food and given a nice bath to soothe his skin. He loves all people and is very affectionate. Mateo enjoys being held, but also is content to lay at your feet. He is very food motivated and already knows basic commands. Mateo is indifferent to most dogs, so another laid-back buddy would be great. He also does not seem to mind cats. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. Story
ABOUT MOO Moo is a 1 year old pittie mix that was found abandoned on our property. We tried to find her owner, but unfortunately no one came for her. Without any information, we knew exactly what to call her. Named because of her unmistakable spots and snorting noises, Moo is the goofiest girl around! All she needs is an active owner, willing to provide the endless belly-rubs she's been yearning for. Whether she's curled up in her kennel or zooming around our fenced fields, Moo always has her favorite toys right by her side! Her rough and tumble play-style keeps us all entertained. After she lets her energy out, she is quick to flop over at your feet for some love! Moo is very food and toy motivated to learn, making her the perfect student. She already knows basic commands and walks well with a harness. She is eager to please her friends and sure to win over your heart. Will you give this sweet girl a chance? **Moo is seeking a home as your only pet! If you are interested in adopting Moo, please submit an adoption questionnaire!
