I am Cairo, sleek, handsome and debonair (that means I am confident and a good looker foster mom say's). I would like nothing more then to find a home where I can run and play. I would be an excellent exercise companion for an active person. Fenced yard would be wonderful so I can bring my Kong stick to play fetch. Story
Herman is one of the sweetest dogs around. His passions include snuggling on the couch, tossing his toys in the air, and running as fast as he can in the backyard. He loves to explore and go for walks, although he is wary of loud noises. Hermie enjoys playing fetch and knows commands for sit and down. He is potty trained, crate trained however he does not require one, and has never displayed the urge to chew anything but his own toys. Hermie loves other animals (cats and dogs) but is not a big fan of kids. He would be a great companion for someone who loves to see the outdoors but will also snuggle at night. Herman and is sister, Luna, came from a neglect situation. They were both born with birth defects and were not properly socialized to people, new things and situations. It is important that whomever would adopt him would be patient with him while he learns new things. Through medical testing, Herman was found to have a cobalamine deficiency meaning he is not absorbing B vitamins from his food and needs monthly B12 shots. (this is really the only actual medication that is needed from the vet). He is on a high protein diet and does best on grain free puppy food with added canned food for calories. He has a bit of an underbite and small kibble is best as it is easier to chew. Herman had a very hard time gaining weight. It took the foster home 6 months to wean him from prescription food in order for his to gain weight on something higher in protein. It is essential that his diet is not changed to cheap food. He is now a healthy 60lbs. Since he does not have much hair, his skin and coat need special maintenance. For dryness, he will need to be rubbed with oil and because he has little hair he is at risk of sunburn and needs to be protected from the sun. He will also need to wear a coat in the winter if out for any length of time to keep him warm.If you have any questions or would like to meet this pet, please email contact@stlpetrescue.com. Story
Stuart is happy easy going little dog that loves attention, toys and food. Sweet little Stuart's owner died. No one in the family wanted him. We gladly took him in. He's about 12. We believe he is a Chihauhau Dachshund mix, commonly called a Chiweenie. He had no vet care in his past home and had to have 12 teeth pulled during a dental. Stuart is fine with the three other dogs and cat in his foster home. He goes to work with his foster Mom and is totally fine with new things, places and people. Won't you give this sweet little boy a chance? If you have any questions or would like to meet this pet, please email contact@stlpetrescue.com. Story
Hi my name is Mac. I'm an approximately 12 year old Mastiff or Bully breed mix. I am the sweetest, funny goofball. When I'm taken for a walk, I still act like a puppy and think everyone we see wants to pet me. Even though I'm an older guy, I still like toys especially squeaky toys like a Wubba. When my foster Mom comes home from work and lets me out I occasionally do zoomies in the yard. I'm really affectionate and like to give licks and when I sleep in bed with my foster Mom, I like to lay on her for a short period of time for hugs and lovin' before I go to the end of the bed. I'm pretty healthy and the only thing I need at this point is to take joint supplements everyday for my arthritis and a supplement for a bit of incontinence. The ideal adoptive of permanent foster home for me would be with retired, work from home or can bring their dog to work people. No other pets or maybe one other pet. I want all the attention. My foster Mom says I deserve it. I've been in homes with other pets and kids but I'm old now and deserve someone's undivided attention and to be showered with LOVE. The ideal person would let me sleep in bed with them, buy me toys, yummy food and treats and take me for a short walk every day. I am easy to walk with a Gentle Leader head collar. If you have any questions or would like to meet this pet, please email contact@stlpetrescue.com.
