Story
MEET the new hero that will break your heart- abandoned at shelter - he was not wanted anymore. MONTY - an 8-9 (or older) Neufandlander, Retriever mix, 57 lbs. He was doomed to be euthanized at a CA shelter in Long Beach Area due to the vet work that needed o be done, and the shelter not wanting to invest that kind of money...and not to forget..he is "older"- meaning often (in terms of shelter) "hard to adopt”. ADR.org does not accept these kind of stigmata on an innocent creature. Each life counts. So Monty is safe now and out of danger zone. Needless to say that his head is now more up than down (as it was at the shelter- he had literally given up) and that he conquered already many hearts at the boarding place in Palmdale where he is still until his stitches from entropion eye lid surgery and lump removal can be removed. He displays such gentle demeanor and loyalty. He is up to date with shots, microchipped, his bloodwork looks good given the neglectful life he must have had, and his thyroid level is in order. The spots on his body that are hairless due to earlier flee infestation, poor nutrition and exposure to weather will grow back. With nutritious, healthy food and a comfortable life he will totally bounce back. The person who will be lucky to call him his own is out there somewhere. MONTY is scheduled to come to WA mid to end of March. There will be a thorough screening process incl. initial phone conversation before an application will be sent to the potential interested party. Please send an email to ADR@animaldefenserescue.org to get the process started. Include some photos of yourself, the pet(s) you might have and your home. WOOFLY YOURS, MONTY (and fans) more to come.. Story
Proudly present KONRAD ! KONRAD is an approx. 16 months old Kelpie, Belgian Malignois mix that arrived as a rescue dog from CA where he was found wandering and ended up in a local high kill shelters. It is obvious that KONRAD was on his own since being a puppy, and never experience boundary settings and discipline nor what it means to connect with his environment - be it dogs or humans. Naturally KONRAD is an enthusiastic, agile and quick dog with a natural tendency to be in motion which indicates a bit that he will not be an "apartment" dog, instead needs protected space to run, roam and must be sufficiently exercised KONRAD would be great for working and competitive obedience, but not for toddlers who run and scream. KONRAD is a very intelligent, confident dog and will need extensive socialization and a firm and assertive dog owner who can master a combination of ignoring excited behavior and rewarding calm behavior in KONRAD and make him stay focused. As Konrad has also barely left "puppyhood" he is naturally high-energy and excitable, especially if unexpectedly new situations arise, sounds are too loud and he gets overwhelmed. But KONRAD is so eager to please and while it can take a while to see results with these techniques, you’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll start to see a change once you commit. Consistency is the key to success. There is so much potential in him, and the person(s) who will adopt him will have a loyal, and alert companion. For the time being, KONRAD lives as a single dog home in Anacortes. The founder of AnimalDefense Rescue.org has spent enough time with him to give more assessment in a phone conversation. If you are interested in providing to KONRAD a committed home environment, please email ADR@animaldefenserescue.org. After an initial phone conversation, a meet-and-greet can be arranged at his foster home in Anacortes, WA. Looking forward to hearing from you! WOOFLY YOURS, Konrad

Story
Meet FOZZIE Bear, Fozzie Bear is living for now - until a perfect adoption home is found - on Orcas Island at the home of the founder of ADR.org. AnimalDefense Rescue.org Founder assessment about Fozzie Bear's behavior is the following: **he is a very mellow dog, interacts very well with other dogs (gender does not matter) as long as they do not show too much of an invasive behavior ** Fozzie Bear is not compatible at all with cats ** he is very patient, accepting being left alone for up to 5 hours but needs enough exercise, stimulation and quality time afterwards ** he needs continued structure, and discipline and he will continue to show you a devoted and loyal behavior - Fozzie Bear just wants to please and be around you ** he loves his extensive walks but you need to hold his leash tight in case he sees a deer or a cat or squirrel ADR.org can see him well in a calmer home with or without another dog where he can finally become the center point of the family as he so deserves. Fozzie weights about 55lbs, is approx. 6-7 . fully vaccinated, altered and microchipped. If you want to meet him you are welcome to do so here on Orcas Island. meetings can be arranged. ADR.org offers a foster period before to help you to get to know him better. Please contact ADR@animaldefenserescue.org to receive an application as well as to have a first phone conversation with the founder of ADR.org. We look forward to hearing from you!

Story
Hi my name is Dixie. As you can see I'm a very pretty girl. I am a senior but I still have lots of pep in my step and enjoy long walks where I can do lots of sniffing. What I like most is to spend time with my people watching movies on the couch or curled up near the fire in my soft bed. I'll probably do best in an all adult home where I am the only dog so I can get lots of attention and scratches behind my ears. My doctor says I'm in good health for my age with good hearing and only slightly diminished eye sight. I already know sit and come and am ready to keep on learning. Come by and say hi but be sure to bring a tasty treat.

Story
EMMETT is a adorable 20 lbs pound little fellow that comes gradually out of his shell since he lives with the owner of ADR.org (1 week). Emmett was seized from a hoarding situation in CA, is always looking at you to make sure he is in no danger. He lives with cats and big dogs at the rescue president's home on Orcas island. His behavior is shy and apprehensive- most of the time. He is very bonded with Toby who came to the same boarding place where Emmett was already sheltered and felt isolated. Toby has become his 'comfort blanket'. ADR. org would like to either both dogs being adopted as a pair or get each of them into a calm, relaxed and structured home (ideally with an owner being around a lot of time) or at least into a home where there is already a dog that looks for a companion. Emmett is 80% house trained and LOVES his walks multiple times a day. ADR.org can give you some more information about his behavior and how you will be successful in helping him to become a self-assured dog again. Please contact us by sending a mail to ADR@animaldefenserescue.org . Emmett looks forward to hearing from you! Rufous

Terrier (Unknown Type, Medium) Fox Terrier (Wirehaired)

Male, Adult
Friday Harbor, WA
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Good with kids, Good with dogs, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
I have owned Rufous since May, 2015. He came from a shelter in Auburn, WA. Prior to this, he had come from a shelter in Fremont, CA. and had jumped around to a few different homes. He was a really scared/fearful dog when I first got him. He was afraid of men, hats and objects in hands, in particular, and most noises would make him jump. He has come a long way and now he adores many men and isn’t afraid to make eye contact and meet someone new. He is a medium male dog. About 43-lbs and a Terrier mix. He has scruffy red/orange/blond fur and doesn’t shed a ton. He has semi-wirey hair. Some people think he is a blend of Airdale, rish Terrier, and/or Border Terrier. He is fast, energetic, has a pray drive, has an incredible nose (I have done k9 nose work with him), very smart, loves to chase balls, loves to swim, quick to bark/jumpy with noises, can herd other dogs sometimes (has herding qualities), very loyal, protective, and protective of his toys. He is playful/active and loves snuggles.
