Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Brodie DOB: 9/13/17 Weight: 48 lbs Adoption Fee: $125 Hi! I am young dog looking for my forever home! I am a super energetic and would love a family that wants to do activities! I'm very food motivated which is awesome for training. I crate very well, especially over night and for short times during the day. My effervescence can be over whelming for dogs so I need to be with dogs who wont be upset with my energy or be the only pet in the home. I do well in a fenced yard since I love to run and play all day! Older kids would be great so I can keep up with them. I'd knock over anyone under 10. I love smart puzzle toys to keep my attention, especially when they dispense treats.  I am physically fit, very smart and food motivated. My foster moms thinks I would do great with a fun job/ sport like  dog agility, dock diving, disc dog etc. Do I sound like the boy for your family??   Note from Brodies foster mom about his needs:  - Exercise, physical and brain stimulation -Since he is dog selective and can get rough with other dogs, maybe an only dog home -Room to run -Someone who doesnt mind his energy, his jumping, wanting to crawl all over them, he is like a Bull in a China Shop -His need to be by people -He's not a fan of chasing balls -He takes a while to go potty due to him smelling everything -He may knock over younger kids  -Someone who can give him as much love as he has to give, that's ALOT!!   * Brodie is on a daily medication to help control his borderline addisons disease.    An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Vail  DOB: 5/1/17 Weight: 20lbs Adoption Fee: $350 Hi there! Vail here -I just moved to MN within the last couple months and I have had quite the ride thus far. You see, I moved from TX where I was found on the side of the road in a kennel along with almost 20 other dogs. We were all brought into the shelter and I was finally picked up to go to a foster family so I could join a new life in MN. As you can imagine, my human interactions haven't been that great prior to coming to MN. My foster mom didn't give up on me and she keeps telling me that I will learn to love her like she loves me. I have to say I am still coming around, but I'm a whole new doggy. I don't like to be held, but I do love to go outside and play with my foster sisters and brothers. My kennel is still my safe place, so if I get a little too overwhlemed, I'll go in there and lay down for a bit. My foster mom asked me to think about my perfect home, so this is what I am thinking so far. I would love a calmer home, young kids are a little too unpredictable for me, I also would love to have a doggy friend and a secure, fenced yard. I currently live with dogs and cats and I think both are great, but I do love to play with the other doggies and they are teaching me so much too! My foster mom could go on about me, so if you have questions or are interested in me, please fill out an adoption application at www.ruffstartrescue.org. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: DELTA DOB: 03/07/2017 Weight: 46 Adoption Fee: $125 "Delta is my name and cuddling is my game.  I give the best snuggles in the world.  I have no sense of personal space, and I love to hug and give kisses.  I only want to make my person(s) happy and shadow them everywhere they go.    Don't let my cuddles fool you... I'm also a little bundle of energy.  I love bike rides, long walks exploring, Dairy Queen drive-thrus, de-stuffing my dog toys, chomping on dog bones, and plenty of tug-of-war games.  After a day of fun, my favorite place in the world is right beside my person(s). I'm a people pleaser, very smart, and I make the best 40lb  lap dog. I have so much love to give.     On  the flip side, I have a bit of separation anxiety and would do best if not left without my person(s) for very long.  I had a rough start at life and being left alone makes me anxious.  I've eaten my share of shoes, and I feel super bad about it - but it's the only way I have to tell my person(s) that I'm anxious when they leave.  I've also been known to jump a short fence to try to be with my person in the front yard.  I need a home in a safe environment, and lots of attention so that I don't escape and accidentally get lost.    I'm pretty timid around lots of animals, so thank-you-but no dog parks for me... and definitely no walking into PetSmart (yicks, that's the worst).  Maybe it's because I spent many months in shelters and warehouse-sized building reminds me of that.  Cats  are okay as long as they don't want to interact with me.  If they don't mind me, then I don't mind them.   Kids really terrify me... so no young ones. I tremble, cower, and try to escape.  I'm ok with some older teenagers that are calm and dog-savvy.  (Especially if they have treats!)    I'm not a barker unless someone comes to the door or I hear a doorbell. I'm sensitive to sounds and my alertness is probably how I survived when I was a young pup in Oklahoma. So a quiet house would be best. Actually, my  ideal home is someone that works from home or is retired and has one awesome doggie playmate for me . I like dogs if they are calm and my size, but I'm not great with small dogs. I'm not sure why I don't like them, but when they approach me my hackles go up and I turn my head to tell them I'm not interested in meeting.  I'm not dog-aggressive, I'm just particular about who i want to be friends with and I'll turn away if I'm not interested.  My person(s) are the center of my world and I just want to focus on them.   If you're interested in meeting me and you're ready to cuddle, let's meet!"     (P.S. My foster mom is going to ugly cry on the day I leave, so be prepared for that!  No seriously... like really, please bring the Kleenex! No joke.) Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Pumpkin DOB: 9/23/2015 Weight: 7 lbs Adoption Fee: 375.00 Meet Pumpkin!  Pumpkin has so much personality it can barely be contained by his 7lb body!  If you want a dog with tons of playful energy, he's your guy.  He loves to fetch his favorite toys so much, he'll often throw it for himself to chase. He loves long walks and can keep up easily; he'd be a great adventure dog for hikes and other outdoor activities.  He's very athletic, and might even enjoy some agility training!  When he's burned off his ample energy, he loves to demand affection and snuggle on the couch. He sleeps very well in his crate.  He loves other dogs!  Dog-savvy cats would probably be fine, though he does have some terrier prey-drive in him.     All this personality comes with a few quirks that you should be aware of.  He's got a little bit of stranger danger, so while he might not warm up immediately, once he trusts you he's so energetic.  He's a bit mouthy when he plays, and can startle easily, and might nip in fear if approached too quickly, so no small children for him.  He still is marking some so he wears a belly band in the foster home, but does well going potty outside on a schedule.  He will bark some, so he might not be the best apartment dog   All that being said, if you're willing to work with his minor faults, you will be repaid with endless love.   He's a truly awesome little dude that will provide lifelong entertainment and adoration. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Maine DOB: 3/22/2009 Weight: 10 lbs Adoption Fee: $125 This animal is part of our "Seniors for Seniors" program where we offer senior animals adopters an opportunity to adopt a pet at a discounted fee.  Hey everyone! My name is Maine.  I found myself being dumped at the shelter at 11 years old when my family got divorced. They said that was the reason.. but many of the people who met me in the shelter thinks it was an excuse, because it doesn't look like anyone had been caring for me for a long time. I had bad hair loss and hadn't been groomed in gosh knows how long, terrible skin redness, irritation and discharge out of my eye (which they believe I am blind in), and severe dental tartar. When I got to the shelter I was really scared and was labeled as "aggressive". That is FAR from the truth. My foster mom in Texas says I am very sweet and friendly, but I just don't like when people handle me in certain ways that may cause me pain. All in all, it's been a rough road, but I am finally getting a second chance to find a family that will love and  spoil me the way I deserve. I'm still decompressing, so my foster is including all she knows about me so far. The ladies at Ruff Start said they'll update my information once they get it! :) Right now though, I'm trying to adjust to a new foster home and  I love sleeping in my crate at night.  I keep it nice and clean! Although I keep my kennel clean, I'm not totally potty trained outside of it yet. But I'm working on it!  In the meantime if you have questions or are interested in me, please fill out an adoption application at www.ruffstartrescue.org. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Brutus DOB: 03/26/2018 Weight: 5.6lbs Adoption Fee: $375 Hi there! The name's Brutus.. nice to meet you! I'm a southern gentleman who  came to Minnesota not too long ago. I was found as a stray in Houston, Texas. I was being terrorized by a group of larger dogs on the streets, so I was happy when someone came to save me and bring me into their home. Now I'm just a happy and friendly guy! I bond quickly to my humans, and I love playing with other small dogs. Due to my past, I much prefer smaller dogs if I'm honest. I haven't met any felines friends though, so I'm not quite sure how I'd do with them. I ask for pets, and you can tell how much I enjoy it. I enjoy cuddling next to people on the couch, so I'd be the perfect little buddy to watch some Netflix with! What else.. well, I'm crate trained, and like to eat my meals in there. I go in at bedtime with no issue.. I also get a treat when I go in so.. lets keep that going if I come to your home, OK? :) I'm still working on my potty training, but with a schedule I should fully get the hang of it soon (I'm almost there)!  An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.  Please check out our website, www.ruffstartrescue.org for more details and additional pictures on any of our animals!
