Story
My name is Pixie and I was born in August 2017. My mom was a scruffy Wired Hair Terrier, and my dad was probably a Chihuahua. My foster mom says that I may look and act like a "tough guy", but I'm a real love bug. I do get a little bit jealous when other pets get attention, food or treats, so I probably would do best as an only pet (for sure no cats) I love meeting up with doggy friends for walks and play dates, and I do get along with my foster sister in my foster home, but she is a submissive dog so doesn't make me feel threatened. I also am timid around strangers, but once I warm up, I love to cuddle with them. My foster mom has totally fallen in love with me, and I am curled up on her lap as often as possible. About a year ago I had to have FHO surgery on my right hip. It doesn't stop me from doing much of anything, including jumping on the bed and going for long walks/hikes. And I can still run as fast as my sister. I do hold up that leg sometimes, but the vet says that as long as I get lots of exercise and keep my svelte figure, I should be fine. (I currently weigh about 10 pounds and could probably gain a pound or so). I am crate and potty trained, and of course spayed and up to date on shots. I do bark some, but not nearly as much as my foster sister does. Because I can be timid and put on a tough guy act, I probably would do best with children older than 10 who will respect my space and understand me better. I would love to meet you and show you what a sweetheart I am., so contact my foster mom Beth at knuckles145@gmail.com , or call 858- 248-0702. This pet is being fostered in the Rancho Bernardo area of San Diego County.

Story
PLEASE NOTE: This is a courtesy adoption. ARRF has no knowledge of this dog. For more information, please see the contact information below. My name is Millie️, and I am an angel! I am a black and white Pitbull mix who is around nine years old. I have been at the shelter on and off for over a year now. I’ve had enough of shelter life- it is stressful to live in a kennel full time! The volunteers at the shelter where I have lived for over a year love me, and I am a favorite; really, I am; they tell me all the time! Fortunately, I am now in a short-term foster home for the duration of this darn virus-shut-down thing. Its a nice break for me, and I hope I can find my forever home while I’m in foster care. Here is what the volunteers and my foster mom say about me: • I am a little timid when you meet me, but once you show me that you care and will be kind and gentle with me, I open up; it just takes a little time for me to trust as I have been through a lot. • My energy level is excellent for my age- I like to go walking for 30 minutes or so and then take a nap, so I am low-maintenance for my owner. My energy goes up when I see a squirrel or a rabbit- my foster mom says I have a medium prey drive; she is training me to settle down instead of chasing the small animals. • I am friendly with teens and adults once I know they are nice people who I can trust. I should not go to a home with small children or small dogs as they can make me nervous. • I am smart! I learn fast, especially if you give me a few treats while you’re teaching me new things. Whoever said you couldn’t teach mature dogs new tricks has never met me! I just love learning new things! I already know to sit, wait (with a hand signal), off the couch, or go into my kennel, pretty impressive, right? I am learning to be happy in a crate for a few hours, especially if you give me unique toys I can chew on while I’m in there. I sleep through the night comfortably as I am tired at the end of the day. Since I am an older girl, a walk of about 30 to 45 minutes wears me out. But after some water, a snack and a nap, I am ready for another! I can do three walks per day if I get a rest break in between, but I don’t require all those walks. I am housetrained, so as long as I can get outside regularly to do my business, I’m just fine. I am happy spending time with my human in the house watching TV or lounging outside watching the world go by. I can be a bit picky about my four-legged friends, so please introduce me slowly and from a distance to other dog(s). I need time to observe them and sniff them out so that I can evaluate their personalities. My foster mom says that I do best when I am near other dogs if I am given direction and correction. You need to tell me when I am behaving properly and when I am not because I have not spent much time near other dogs while at the shelter. I would probably be overwhelmed at dog parks--- there is often too much going on in those parks. Too much action with too many dogs makes me nervous. I prefer walking with my human one-on-one. I love sitting on the couch, just hanging out with my foster mom watching TV, and I’m not picky about which shows I watch. I just love to snuggle with my foster mom. If you want a loyal and loving friend who will be your shadow and your companion forever, then I’m your gal! To meet me, email 1dogrescuelady@gmail.com or arrfsandiegoweb@gmail.com

Story
NOTE: This is a courtesy posting for another rescuer. Please do not contact ARRF, as we do not know this pet personally. To meet this pet, see contact information below. Chloe is a 12-year old Poodle mix who is just the sweetest girl! She is good with cats, dogs, kids, and adults. Chloe loves to be with her family and would enjoy a nice comfy spot on the couch to live out her golden years. She is healthy and potty trained, loves walks, and rides wonderfully in the car. We suggest a home with children over the age of 10 for this dog. This dog cannot be adopted out of state. Please see our home page for a list of our Saturday adoption sites. Every potential adopter is required to fill out an adoption application and the dog is placed in the home that would be most suitable for the dog. We do not place our dogs in homes with unfenced swimming pools. Generally we don't release the dogs at the adoption site that day except on occasion to former adopters. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please email FCIAadoptions@aol.com.

Story
Tommy, a miniature Poodle, is a special needs boy. He is eight years old and other than being a little on the chunky side, he is in good health with one exception: Although the vet says he can detect some light and shadow in one eye, Tommy is blind. It has been fascinating watching him adjust in a home setting, living with two other dogs in harmony. He follows his Border Collie sister at an off-leash dog park and gets around quite well. Tommy loves people, enjoys his walks, loves riding in the car, and entertains himself with a frozen peanut-butter-filled Kong toy. Other toys are cherished as well. Tommy weighs a bit over 30 pounds, is neutered, microchipped, and is up to date on vaccines. He had a few housetraining accidents at first but has gotten the routine down very well about potty breaks after eating. Tommy needs a very special and patient adopter that will work with him through the initial acclimation in a new home, and most importantly, provide him the love and attention he deserves. To meet Tommy or learn more about him, contact Larry at 760-230-2780 or lryart@cox.net.

Story
NOTE: This is a courtesy posting for another rescuer. Please do not contact ARRF, as we do not know this pet personally. To meet DEX, see contact information below. Dex is a neutered male Husky whose coloring is fawn and white. He is 2 years old and weighs 54 lbs. Free of worms and de-flead, Dex is a gorgeous, unique Husky with tons of personality. Like all Huskies, he is active, enjoys playing, and going on walks. He especially enjoys his treats and good food, probably because he didn’t get much growing up). We suspect that Dex came from a bad situation where he was mistreated. He prefers being outside, even though he’s very well-behaved inside. The ideal family for Dex would be familiar with this breed and understands their needs, like daily exercise. You must have a yard with a tall fence. If you think Dex might be the boy for you, contact Jennifer at this email address: bergovoy@cox.net. You will need to fill out an application and a home visit is mandatory. Dex is being fostered in the La Mesa area of San Diego County.

Our sweet Cosette is still looking for her forever family and her foster mom can’t figure out why! Cosette is a 12 pound, six-year old, spayed female Chihuahua who came into the shelter as a very scared little girl.
