Story
5 yr old, 14 lb Pomeranian NEUTERED MALE needs DONATIONS 3/20/2020 -- MacGregor needs one of his back legs amputated and we are raising funds (estimate is $1200-1800) for this -- we cannot accept applications or interest on him until he has had and healed from surgery. Tax-deductible donations can be made at paypal.me/UOH Venmo @umbrellaof-hoperescue Zelle beourpet@gmail.com Meet our newest muppet-face -- MacGregor -- And we need your help to get him a much-needed surgery to improve his quality of life He is fostered in the SF Bay Area of CA and we suspect we will have no trouble placing him locally (or with someone willing to come to us to adopt) after he has recovered from surgery in 4-6 weeks (likely early-mid May). Until that time, we are not accepting applications or interest because our all-volunteer team needs to focus on the dogs who are currently available for adoption MacGregor is a 5 yr old, 14 lb Pomeranian who joins us from San Jose Animal Care Center where he was brought as a stray. He came to us via the lovely volunteers of San Jose Animal Advocates and Brave Dogs Advocacy He was born with a condition that caused his kneecap to move out of place called a 'medial luxating patella' and his is the worst it can be as it has been graded a 4/4. If it had been attended to earlier in his life would have been surgically correctable. Unfortunately, it is now at the point where there is so much damage to the kneecap and surrounding structures that the only option is to amputate his leg. (And because we know what is coming... Our veterinarian -- and the other veterinarians she consults with -- graduated from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine -- often ranked the #1 veterinary school in the WORLD. She also has over 30 years of clinical experience. So we are 100% confident with her medical opinion and we are not interested in the opinions of those who neither share the same credentials nor have actually examined the dog. Every time we post that a dog needs to have a limb amputated, we get LOTS of peanut gallery comments, emails and messages that we have neither solicited, nor desire. If a TPLO or other corrective procedure was an option for him, we would pursue it and just ask you for more money towards the other procedure) We are not going to cry over that because tripod dogs do JUST fine and once he recovers from surgery, the pain he has had for years will be gone and he will be able to walk normally again. Right now he is hunched over and limping even with several good pain medications onboard. He also has a benign condition called Alopecia X (you can google it) which is common in pomeranians that is not contagious but results in hair loss. He has been treated with a melatonin implant which is successful in some dogs with regrowing the lost hair. It is cosmetic and does not bother him so we are mentioning it only as an afterthought. If you can make a donation towards his surgery, please do so online -- all donations are tax-deductible paypal.me/UOH Venmo @umbrellaof-hoperescue Zelle beourpet@gmail.com You can also start a Facebook fundraiser for us if you are so inclined.
