Story
Dottie Mae and her best friend Charlie Bucket (named for a character in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory), were part of a 5 dog family that was surrendered when their owner moved into a nursing home. They are a bonded pair that needs to stay together - when separated they become very anxious. Both are lap dogs (Charlie gets jealous if Dottie gets more attention than he), both walks well on leash and love to ride in the car. Dottie and Charlie can be cautious meeting new people, and bark when meeting new dogs – this behavior could be leash reactivity, but the foster doesn’t let them get nose-to-nose with any other dog. Dottie is fully housetrained, and has a high pitched bark when she has to go outside. Charlie’s cues are more subtle (pacing), and if you miss them he will have accidents in the house. The foster has started using belly band to curb accidents. Both can be kenneled for up to 8 hrs and both sleep with the 15 yr old girl in the home. They come when called and like to rough-house with each other. They both do well with baths and nail trimming, and they groom each other daily. Very sweet pair of pups that needs to stay together. Charlie tends to bark a lot, so they wouldn’t be suitable for a condo, apartment or townhome. They don’t have any experience living with young children – any kids in their adoptive home should be respectful 10-12 yr of age. No cat experience. Charlie is a 2 yr old male Lhasa/Chihuahua mix that weighs 7#. He is neutered, and current on distemper and rabies vaccinations. In July of this year he had a dental cleaning – no extractions needed. His microchip is registered to Second Chance. Dottie Mae is a 2 yr old female Lhasa/ ?Chihuahua mix that weighs 8.5#. She is spayed, and current on distemper and rabies vaccinations. Her DOB is 7/2017. Dottie had a dental on 7/17/19 - one retained baby tooth was extracted. Her microchip is registered to Second Chance. The adoption fee for the pair is $600. Story
Waffle is 9 months old, he will be 10 months on 11/11. We adopted him from the Humane Society in Golden Valley. He came up from Alabama, and he was in really rough shape. He had several different parasites and was underweight. He's a big, healthy 46 pound pup now. Waffle is a WONDERFUL little fella. He loves nothing more than hugs and snuggles. He has a stubborn and mischievous side, but he is mostly so great. Our problem is coming in that we don't have the ability to train his separation anxiety out of him. As we live in an apartment, his crying when we try to leave has resulted in at least one of us having to stay home every time we want to do something. We have a very young son, and he tries to nip ("herding" behavior, not actual biting) at him to try to get him to stay. I think Waffle would benefit from a home with a yard he can put his tracking abilities to good use in, and a family that is patient and able to work out his anxieties.

Story
Ki is a 6.5 yr old lovable boy who came to us after his owner decided to move in with family and he was “voted out of the move”. Within days, it was apparent that he needs exercise, structure, and attention for him to thrive. With supervision, he has done well with visitors and after he “calms down” in his kennel is very friendly. We can tell he hasn’t had a lot of positive social interactions and are working on that - and we’re confident he will learn quickly with practice. He is perfectly house and crate trained - he sleeps in his crate at night and when we leave the house just to keep some separation from the resident Dane, but we don’t think he would get into things if left to roam. We were expecting a bit of male aggression but haven’t seen that since he’s arrived - in fact, he absolutely loves my husband and has warmed up quickly to us both. He mostly ignores the resident Dane so we think he would be happy in a home with another large dog or as the solo dog. He does tend to be quite vocal which can be misinterpreted as aggressive, but we feel with proper management and awareness he will make an excellent companion. He’s happiest when receiving pets and belly rubs, going on long walks, and playing tug of war with a rope toy. As you can see from the photos, Ki is a big boy and has some weight to lose. With a structured home including regular walks and proper diet, he is going to flourish. With the help of a gentle leader, he does well on walks but still needs a confident handler for the situations when he spots another dog and gets excited. Due to his large size and vocal nature, he needs a home that will be consistent with training, walking, and socialization. A fenced yard will be important so he can expel some energy between walks. We know Ki will make someone with patience and a big heart very happy! ##568667##

Rottweiler

Female, Young
Lexington, MN
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
We adopted Sadie from the AHS mid-March. She is a 1-year-old Rottweiler mix. When we got her we were told that she was likely abused in her past. She was born somewhere in Texas where she lived in a shelter before she was moved to a shelter here in MN. We were told that she was very shy and needed a quiet environment. Recently, we discovered she needs a quiet environment at first, but after she is comfortable, she loves being outside in an enclosed space, loves cuddling, loves playing, and absolutely loves human attention. Ideally, her new home would be somewhere with a fenced-in yard and owners that are really patient and willing to let her anxiety play out the first couple of days as she gets used to the new environment. Treats have been our friend during her more anxious days to get her to do things. Sadie likes to be the center of attention. She is cuddly, playful, anxious, and a gem of a dog.

Story
Bella is a very sweet & loving dog. I bought her from the Humane Society two summers ago, at 11 months old. She gets along with my Pekinese Bugsy and she is ok with my cats. Loves to chase but never hurts. Not sure about small children though. She has never been around them. She has never been trained behavior wise. She barks excessively outside and I just had two police come to the door because of it and warned me.
