Story
Snapshot of Opa! Size?  Small/Medium (30 lbs) Age?  2 Years Activity Level?  I play hard and snuggle hard! Noise Level?  I like to alert people that something new is happening, but I quiet down quickly! Good with Dogs?   I'm great with slow intros :) Good with Cats?  Untested, but may chase! A solid “leave it” command will be useful. Good with Kids? Untested Good with Strangers?  I'm getting more and more used to them. Potty Trained?  I'm a pro! Crate Trained?   I don’t like going in (even with my favorite treat), but I do well once inside. Interested? Learn more about Opa below! About Opa:  Around 2 years old, Opa lived most of her life in a shelter in Magnolia, Arkansas before making the journey up to Minnesota to find her forever home. While she looks like a lab mix, we were surprised to find that she is mini-sized!  Opa is one of the sweetest pups you will have the pleasure to meet. Although she was extremely shy upon arrival, she quickly became comfortable and very attached to both of ‘her humans.’ She began to follow us around everywhere to make sure she could lie in our laps whenever we sat down. While she has been gaining independence and now can tolerate - and will occasionally choose - to be in a separate room, she is still quite the snuggler! She prefers to snuggle most of the day and all night. Opa originally showed a lot of hesitation around unfamiliar people, but has been more confident in meeting new people over time.  Opa was immediately interested in the resident dog in her home, but took a while to get fully comfortable and is still learning how to play; she gets really excited in short spurts then isn’t quite sure what to do, all of which is wholly adorable. When she encounters other less familiar dogs, she definitely wants to visit, but prefers when the dogs are calm and keep all four paws on the ground. While Opa appears to enjoy having a canine companion, she would likely be perfectly content with just a human family, too. She LOVES to go for walks and always wants to go faster, faster, faster, as well as chase anything moving, whether it be squirrels or rabbits or even a blowing leaf. She is strong and still learning how to walk with us rather than pull us along on these exciting outings.  Opa came fully potty trained and has never had a single accident in the house! She seemed highly perplexed by any commands and shy about us trying to show her, but has been sitting reliably for treats recently. She has also gotten pretty skilled at catching treats out of the air! Opa is motivated by food and by pleasing people, so that bodes well for further training. We learned that Opa had a few health issues upon her arrival, which have largely resolved and she is getting healthier every day. The only health concern that remains is that she needs to complete treatment for heartworm, which is why Opa is listed as Foster to Adopt! Beginning in May, Opa will need to start injections for treatment which will require to her to be on an activity restriction. If you are interested in Opa,  Twin Cities Pet Rescue will work with you to inform what is needed for her treatment, as well as a a foster-to-adopt option, so you can welcome Opa into her forever home as she completes treatment!  If you are looking for a faithful companion who likes attention, affection, and adventure, look no further: Opa is the one for you! Snapshot of Rockford Age? 5 years Size? Jumbo (50-60 lbs) Potty trained? I'm a pro! Crate trained? Yep! Good with kids? No kids, if you please. Good with dogs? No dogs, if you please. Good with cats? No cats, please! Good with strangers? I can get excited, but I want to love everyone. Shedding? Average.  Interested? Learn more about Rockford below! Please read thoroughly before applying! Meet Rockford! Hello! My name is Rockford, but you can call me Rocky. I am a 3-year-old squishy pitbull with a beautiful reddish coat! I am both housetrained and crate trained, and I know lots of useful tricks like sit, leave it, stay, and more! Beauty AND brains! I'm also adorable (if you couldn't already tell by my pictures). When I sleep, I make lots of cute little gremlin noises that I know you will fall in love with. I love my foster mommy, and I love to follow her all around the house. I love going for car rides as much as possible. I also love going on night time walks to explore the world! The kids in my home current home make me stressed, so I will need a foster home with no young kids. I'll definitely need to be the only fur-child as well. I'm not a big fan of other animals, and it'd be best if I could be your one-and-only. After all, that means more attention for me! I'll snuggle in your lap, play games, run around doing zoomies, or nap with you all day! I am a stocky boy, and I will need a home with a securely fenced yard. If that doesn't work, I will need a strong handler for walks. Working with me to get used to nicely walking on a harness will help.  I'm currently working on training in my foster home, and will need an adopter who is committed to keep working with me. Like I said, I'm really smart, but I sometimes have trouble focusing. Continued training will help me to relax and feel more at home!  I love people, so my humans will also need to be prepared for lots of snuggles and play time. Think I might be the one?? Apply to meet me today! Not ready to adopt? I'm also looking for a new foster home! Email dogs@twincitiespetrescue.org for information, so submit an application today! Adoption Fee: Sponsored! ($0) This includes up-to-date vaccinations and preventatives, spay/neuter, microchip, a negative heartworm test, and a negative fecal test. Our adopters are also eligible for a free 1-hour consultation. Training Requirement: Training required.    MEET ME/ADOPT ME:  If you’d like to arrange a meeting or begin the adoption process, please fill out an adoption application by visiting  www.twincitiespetrescue.org/adopt/adopt-a-dog/ . Noise Level? I like to alert people that something new is happening, but I quiet down quickly. Good with Dogs? I would LOVE a playmate! Good with Cats? I like cats more than they like me - a strong "leave it" command will help. Good with Kids? Older kids only please! Good with Strangers? I like women more than men. Potty Trained? I'm almost there! Crate Trained? I bark some, but quiet down quickly Interested? Learn more about Ashley below! About Ashley:  Hi! I'm Ashley! I'm an enthusiastic puppy ready to be your best friend. I love fetch, going on runs with my foster parents and tossing stuffies in the air and catching them over and over. Sometimes I like to throw them to myself, which is really cute. I'm very good at toys where I have to work to get the treats out and love trying them everyday.  I walk pretty good on a leash and even better with a gentle lead. I do try to pull at squirrels but I've already gotten way better.    I'm really good with other dogs and would love a playmate. Since I'm still young I need reminders from older dogs when enough is enough but I listen well and leave them be when they want me to. In fact, an older calm dog would be great for me as I learn to trust and work on my anxiety. My foster sister has helped me a lot learn the routine of being a happy pup!   I'm very snuggly with people I trust. I love laps, resting my head on your shoulder and cuddling close. I am very shy around men but patient quiet ones will get licks and snuggles from me sometimes. I love people and I'm a great kisser!   I'm mainly potty trained. I have an occasional potty accident in the house but my family is learning my signals and I'm pretty good about it because it doesn't happen much. I whine and hover at the door and that means I gotta go!    I'm a really good pup but because I'm still young my family is working on me reeling in my excitement when they get home and getting better greeting manners. Its pretty typical of a baby like me. I'm getting there, I just love you so much! On that note, I'm not a huge chewer but important things should be kept away from me, I'm still little after all.    When my family goes to work I go into my kennel. Its not my favorite but I'm good about needing to go in and I'm not ready to have the house to myself without it so I treat it as my little room, no problem!   I believe strongly that no squirrels should ever be in your yard and work hard to keep them away. I'm an excellent jumper...like wow! Because of my great athletic ability I need to have a high fence that can keep me safe. I'm not really an escape artist, I like being with you too much for that its just that I'm very athletically inclined and I gotta make sure that squirrel won't bother you again!   Overall I'm a silly fun girl with adorable freckles and lots of love to give. As long as a family can give me some exercise and love every day I can easily hold up the deal of being your best buddy!  Adoption Fee:  $450 Training Requirement:  Puppy training or obedience 1 required   MEET ME/ADOPT ME:  If you’d like to arrange a meeting or begin the adoption process, please fill out an adoption application by visiting  www.twincitiespetrescue.org/adopt/adopt-a-dog/ . Snapshot of Cosmo! Size? Full size (35-50lbs) Age? About 1 year  Activity Level? I play hard and snuggle hard! Noise Level? Medium Good with Dogs? I feel most comfortable when I'm with a friend! Another dog in the home is strongly preferred. Good with Cats? No cats, if you please! Good with Kids? Older kids only, please. Good with Strangers? I love everyone! Potty Trained? I'm a pro! Crate Trained? I love my crate! Interested? Learn more about Cosmo below! About Cosmo:  Hi, my name is Cosmo and I am a young black mouth cur/hound mix puppy. I came from a rural shelter in Texas a few weeks ago to live with my foster family in MN and I love it up here! I live with two other dogs, a few cats, my foster mom and dad, and their 1 year old son. I love everyone and everything! I like to run around with the dogs outside and then come inside to nap. I can play a little rough with the cats, so I would do best in a home without them. I know I may have some hound in me, but I’m actually really quiet! I bark when someone is at the door or when the other dogs really start barking. But otherwise I’d prefer to not use my voice.  I’m still a puppy but I’m very smart! I’m a pro at potty training, and I sleep in my crate at night or whenever you need be to be in it. If you're home and I'm in my crate, I will sometimes bark to remind you that I'm still here. But it doesn't last long and I quiet down quickly. I walk well on a leash, but I’m still working on not zig-zagging in front of you. I also know sit and I’m working on stay! I would love if my new family continued working on training with me!  Right now my foster home does not have a fenced yard. But they have a long leash that lets me run around and sniff things and that works just fine! I would love to go to a home with other animals that I can play with. Being with other dogs really helps keep me busy. I can also play a little rough, so being in a home with kids that are a little bit older would be ideal. If I sound like the perfect match for you, apply to meet me today! Adoption Fee: $425 Training Requirement: Yes, obedience 1 training class required. About Ella: I am Ella!  A potty- and crate-trained pooch who is curious and loves to play!  I am excited to meet new people, and eager to show and play with my toys.  I don't do so well with other dogs, so I need to be in a house where I can be the only dog.  I sometimes am scared of people with hats, and when there is too many people I get nervous.  I am a medium sized Pit Bull Terrier, and I have really short hair that does not shed much!  I sleep through the night and love to take naps.  Barking can be an issue, but going out for walks and calming me down when I start to bark usually is helpful.  Upon adoption, TCPR will pay for a reactivity-specialized training course (Reactive Rovers or similar) up to $210!  (We pay this directly to the trainer/program) Also, we will pay for a year of behavioral meds (fluoxetine) to help Ella successfully transition into her forever home.
